Morgan Burnett has not done a whole lot during today's padded practice. Certainly he is physically limited.

What if it is a message though? What if Micah Hyde and Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix form a better tandem than Burnett with either? What do the Packers do with Burnett? Release him? Trade him? Drop him down the depth chart?

7/15/2013: Signed a five-year, $26.073 million contract. The deal contains $8.25 million guaranteed. Burnett is eligible for annual $300,000 workout bonuses in years two through five.

2014: $1.15 million (+ $1.5 million roster bonus due in March + $300,000 in per-game roster bonuses),
2015: $2.9 million (+ $300,000 in per-game roster bonuses),
2016: $3.8 million (+ $300,000 in per-game roster bonuses),
2017: $4.75 million (+ $300,000 in per-game roster bonuses),
2018: Free Agent

No chance

It would cost 2m to cut him and he's the only S on the team with actual game experience at that position. He had a down year but he had 2 pretty good years before that. Way too premature to talk about cutting the guy.

I hope Burnett is okay. He continues to watch practice from the sidelines.

The increase in his numbers were solely due to every team having to pass the ball 40+ times in hopes of keeping up with the Packers. You remove that element and he's barely average. So he hasn't even really had one good year and he's entering his 5th season.

Sean Richardson and someone else would have to really come on strong for the Packers to move (e.g. trade) Burnett.

2013 PFF had 62 Safeties ranked higher than Burnett.
2012 PFF had 14 Safeties ranked higher than Burnett.
2011 PFF had 30 Safeties ranked higher than Burnett.

Yikes, that was depressing lol

For whatever reason he did take a step back last year also remember he missed the first 4 weeks of the season with an injury so who knows if that affected him. If he's garbage again this year then yeah he's on the bubble especially with the competition we've got at the position now but he's still going to be our starting S this year.

I don't buy the low ranking thing; I don't buy the increasing negativity in general about Burnett; Aside from any lingering injury or physical stuff, I think Burnett's problem was lack of a second good Safety back there. Hopefully, this year he will have some quality back there with him, whichever of the other three it is. That $300,000 per game roster bonus is interesting, though. That's a LOT of money that could be saved by cutting him - although I really don't see it happening. I assume he would be due the roster bonus if he was put on IR and not cut, right? Anybody know for sure about that?

Burnett's position coach has said he worries too much about covering other peoples mistakes instead of his own position responsibilities. In other words, he's the opposite of A.J. Hawk who you tell him to be at this spot at this time, you know he is going to be there.

FS means Fragile Safety.
Is safety Morgan Burnett OK? He missed lot of practice.
McCarthy: I was told he tweaked his ankle.

This MintCanadianDrivel guy must be slow, real slow, to start such a ludicrous thread. Burnett will be one starter, and Ha Ha and Hyde will both be on the field a lot. I think the plan is for Hyde to start, but move to the slot in nickel and dime sub-packages. Ha-Ha will take the free safety position in the sub packages, unless he can beat out Hyde during training camp.

Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : what the hell was that Goff?! Not much pressure and he just air mails it to Harrison

Martha Careful (6-Jan) : watching the Vikings and Lions it's understandable why they swept the Packers. So much better product
