Packers move to cut salary cap space: They are releasing OT Billy Turner, according to a source.

Interesting move. Thought they liked him. Stenavich made him more than just a journeyman. Started him at LT in the playoffs, over Nijman.

Very surprising move, especially with Jenkins injured, fans questions about Bakhtiari knee and Kelly/Patrick being a FAs, and Myers injuries the last two years and Newman's inconsistency.

The two certain things they had on the OL were Turner and Runyan and now they're just at Runyan.

The other surprising part is that this doesn't seem to be a large cap savings.

I'm thinking this is less about cap space and more about Gute belief in giving guys holes to step up into and Nijman showed well enough that Gute believes he can be the long term starting RT going forward, that or they can resign Kelly and Patrick for the same price as Turner.

And IMO that was a mistake. 🙁 Billy was a fine RT tho.

I would be curious to know what others think…”fine”might be aggressive. I would say ‘decent’, and I am not sure they want to pay that much money for decent.
The question is, who do they have penciled in at RT? Nijman? Jenkins? Or do they think they can bring him back at a lower number.

Unless injuries bite them I see L-R Bak, JRJ, Myers, Newman and Jenkins. The biggest issue is Newman but rookies almost always are terrible. McCarthy would talk about wanting to see players take a big step in year 2. I think there is a lot of truth to that.

With Jenkins at OG still, as pretty much all the teams that have run this wide zone have a LG that was drafted in the top 2 rounds, LG seems to be very valuable in this system.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy

dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : @SharpFootball WR Diontae Johnson just admitted he refused to enter a game in 41° weather last year in Baltimore because he felt “ice cold”
Zero2Cool (24-Jun) : Yawn. Rodgers says he is "pretty sure" this be final season.
