Losing either Nelson or Cobb would be a big blow in the long-term. I value Cobb more because of his age, but the Packers have plenty of cap room to re-sign both of them. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Dwayne Bowe, Greg Jennings, and Mike Wallace have all signed contracts in the $10 million per year range. Nelson’s certainly worth it if they are, so I don’t blame him (or his agent) for pushing for that big of a number.

We paid Rodgers. Something has to give. Jordy is his favorite target, but I think we got other targets Rodgers could find, and frankly, he throws there too much. He gets it there, and no doubt Jordy catches it, but when you pay what we paid for Rodgers, shit has to give.

Everything is free to us fans. The bitch is, it isn't. Our defense is sucking, we need to get past some very good teams we have not been able to, and we paid Rodgers a significant part of our cap. We are going to lose players.

Get him signed before he can hit FA next year.

Still early in negotiations, I expect Jordy to get a 4 yr extension, worth 40 mil with 25 mil guaranteed.

Signing an extension will give both sides more options, and probably leave room for Cobb.

The most important guy in any organization is the guy who understands how the salary cap works, not sure who that is in Green Bay, but hopefully him and Ted stay on top of things.

Plenty of money coming off the books in 2015, with the expected 8-10 mil carry over from this year, plenty ofroom to get these deals done.

These Ted Thompson contracts all look like block busters when they're signed. Two years later, they look like budget minimum.

Jordy has already outperformed both his previous contracts. Pay the guy and think of it as backpay. Nelson should retire a Packer someday.

Don't pay him and let him walk. If Jennings got us a 3rd round comp pick Nelson will do the same. Ted Thompson has a proven track record in drafting WR's.

Somebody posted this site awhile back, they seem to keep it updated.

This is what i use to check when and where the money is going.

Would it not be that if they renegotiate this years 3.5 mil upwards that they could settle on a lower number over the next three years?

I mean if he's going to be paid 3.5 this year without any renegotiating and then 30mil over 3 that comes out to 33.5mil over four years. If they bump him to 8mil now and 8 over the following 3 that's 32million. Surely that would be good enough, eh?

Player contracts are certainly not my strong suit.

As with most deals this will come down to guaranteed money. How big of check does Jordy get when he signs his name and how much will the Packers be on the hook for in his final year.

According to this right now we are like 14th in total spending on the books for next year. That's without any bad contracts really. We've got our best players like Rodgers, Matthews, Sitton locked down and some players that have fairly high cap numbers for that year like Peppers and Hawk can be cut if needed to save significantly more money due to low dead money. We are in pretty good shape still future-cap wise.

Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53

beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
