The Packers didn't sign him to a 10 year $200 million contract for crying out loud. They added him to their 90 man roster. Quite a bit of over reaction to this I believe.

My only concern with the young man might not be in the short time frame... I am going to assume that he is going to tow the line to make his chance count. Logic would lend itself that way.

But often.. personally demons represent themselves.. especially those related to narcotics. Can he sustain the change over the long road with proper support? For him as a person, I certainly hope he succeeds short and long term.. if it benefits the Packers great, but if not, so be it if he can find his path in life.

A broke clock is right more often than Bob McGinn. Why would any NFL team worry about the Packers? That makes absolutely no sense. One would think they have enough to worry about with their own team.

This move puts everything on Colt Lyerla. The Packers have no risk in this move, none whatsoever. If anything at all, the league would give the Packers CREDIT for being willing to give a young man a second chance.

Sure, GB has an out, and I agree with you that their reputation will not be tarnished by giving him this opportunity, as long as he is able to keep his life on track. If he cannot, well, then they release him and take their lumps in PR, for whatever might cause a release from the team... For instance, what if the program they put in place to help him doesn't take? And, what might we expect him to do? That can run the gamut. And, in this, McGinn could be on to something. We are a more "family" oriented team. I hope like hell Lyerla doesn't go off the rails and do something foolish here, like he did just months ago at Oregon. Those are valid concerns.

However, if he comes around, and proves his worth to this Packers team who chose to stick their necks out to give him this chance, all is good.

I do think the Packers staff will work very hard to positively mentor this player, and it could pay some huge dividends.

It didn't work out, and now they are moving forward. Next question. The media may try to leech on the story a little, but who cares. The media is horrible. The Aldon Smiths of the world deserve much more attention because they actually involve a substantial financial risk to the team.

Did the Rams take a hit when they signed Leonard Little?
Did the Bills take a hit when they signed James Lofton?
Did the 49ers take a hit with Tim Harris?
Did the Packers take a hit with Antonio Freeman?

I think GB is in fine standing in giving him this chance as things stand today. And, yeah, i got it, he is signed to the 90 man roster. I'm really addressing what we may be faced with in the future. How will this player handle success? How will he handle failure? We're talking a lot of character stuff about a guy with some very recent character flaws and issues.

I already stated he couldn't have found a better place to land. And, I am really hopeful for the kid, and that he can indeed turn it around. It would be so great if he did.

Let's say we just go back to considering the positives he may bring to the Packers on the football field. Holy crap. That could be huge. A player at TE who can also play the H back and the FB positions... Enormous talent on the field. Again, this could be really, really good. And, GB is as sound an organization as a player could find. Especially when they need a shot at redeeming themselves and their careers.

Personally... this is "news" because there is little happening other than signings right now to discuss. There is some "baggage" to this signing.. so they are talking about it.

Just an UDFA signing.. little risk.. this one just might have a little more reward potential based on talent.

Sure other teams have noticed.. if he keeps his head on straight and his talent projects forward in the league.. it becomes another facet they have to defend. Anyone thinking that there is some negative impacts to this signing.. other than the over played "Packer people" nonsense.. it just isn't here.

Much like the Hubbard signing.. there might be a little more potential than average.

What strikes me funny though, is those that hammered the Hubbard signing, are celebrating this one. 🤔
