You guys always discuss the physical aspects of the football players. Why can't you ever discuss the mental aspects as well. An argument could be made that Nick Collins was our best safety because of his freakish physical ability and all the ground he could cover. But I'll take Leroy Butler because of his intelligence. When the Packers added Eugene Robinson to the fold, that safety play was incredible. I don't think the Packers have the cerebral talent at safety that we have seen in the past. It takes more than lucking out getting physical freaks like Collins. In the long haul, finding the cerebral assassins at the position is way more important.

Couple that football intelligence, the drive to study film, along with incredible instincts and physical ability, and that is Safety utopia.

Seems to me the whole league is safety deprived lately. A quality safety is almost as important as an elite quarterback.

In 2013 we lost to SF with Rodgers, twice. We lost to CIN with Rodgers. We lost to CHI with Rodgers. In 2011 we lost to SF with Rodgers, twice. We lost to SEA, IND, NYG and MIN, all with Rodgers.

This season, we face ATL, CAR, NE, NYJ, PHI, NO, TB, BUF, MIA and SEA outside of our division. Hell yeah I can see us losing to a number of those teams, not to mention our division rivals.

I agree with you, this is kinda a dead horse in the sense that we BOTH want the Packers to upgrade the defense, especially Safety. I'm just saying, contending is one thing, and we already do that. Dominating is the goal, and as you said yourself with the Jairus Byrd remark, we aren't far from that.

I'm gonna have to basically agree with Dakota on the thing about attributes of a good Safety. Being "cerebral" is more of a consideration. Being a physical freak is more in the resume of Corners - Collins was a Corner before he was a Safety. The question is, where are we gonna find something like that? I still say drafting Clinton-Dix despite his 4.6 speed, but with his coverage and ball skill abilities would be the best move ....... and then come back and get Loston or Dixon or whoever in the 3rd or 4th.

Yeah, I think we all recognize where the team stands and what we will need to improve. This could be really fun for all of us fans seeing this team move forward with added talent. I guess the sky is the limit should everything fall into place from a personnel standpoint, and the staff gets a better handle on avoiding injury and how to best utilize their players.

"Packer", "defense," "dominant."

One of these words does not fit.

I'm glad they signed Peppers. Even assuming he is as advertised, though, that at most moves this defense into the realm of "average."

I'm glad people are optimistic, though.

dfosterf (8m) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (1h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (1h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (1h) : Thank you
wpr (2h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (2h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (2h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (2h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (2h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (2h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (3h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (3h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (3h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (20h) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (20h) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (20h) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : TD but another failed 2 pt conversion!
