I don't think trading down will be as easy for Ted at #21 than it would be if they were sitting at say #27 or 28. It will take the right scenario where a team has a chance to grab someone they want very badly that won't be there much longer.

If, for example a QB needy team chooses to wait and trade back up why wouldn't they wait several more picks as I doubt any team behind us would be a threat to grab a QB.

I think Ted will be picking a player at #21. Most these teams drafting early need players and in a deep draft it would be costly to give up second and third round players.

I could see Ted Thompson doing something in Round 3 if they get a compensatory for Jennings in that round. He could move the 85th up or down. My understanding is we will get two extra picks and a total of nine so it's not really pressing that Ted add more picks in this draft.

I can see Ted trading with them at 21 if he can get their #2(35th overall), and #3.

That is the one scenario that sticks out to me.

The other is that The Packers could get lower in the 1st rnd if Cleveland decides they want to move up from 26(From Colts).

That would get The Packers in the range you are talking about and would probably get them a 2nd along with it from The Browns.

Trading is exciting to think about, but a team needs a trade partner, with the reported depth of talent in this draft, I am betting ted will trade down or out of the 1st rnd if at all possible.

As for Cleveland the teams picking between the Packers at 21 and Cleveland at 26 (Eagles Chiefs, Bengals, Chargers) probably won't be drafting a QB that high so if the Browns decide to pass on a QB at#4 (I would and draft Watkins if available) hoping to nab 1 at 26 (Carr?) probably wouldn't have to worry about any of these teams picking him. On the other hand if they pass on a QB at#4 pretty much everyone knows they will try to get one at 26 so any other team that has passed on one of the top 3 (vikings for example) could try to trade with the Packers or any of the 22,23,24,25 spots to get ahead of Cleveland.

I agree that draft day picks can be exciting. Its easy and safe (well, as safe as a draft pick can be) to stand pat and take the BPA or the the guy who best fits your need (if that is your strategy) but taking a chance that the guy you really want will be there 6 or 7 or more picks later and you can get another pick in the process is something I think most GMs dream of.

GMS who trade up do it for need. They need a franchise QB and the best ones will be gone by the time they pick so they trade up to get one of them. They don't trade up if they don't have a particular guy in mind. It just doesn't make sense.

GM's who trade down may be looking at a particular guy who they think will still be available but most likely when they trade down its because they are sitting there with 2 or 3 (or more) guys that they would be equally happy taking and they are confident that at least one of them will be available several picks later. They get one of the guys they want and another pick. Its a can't lose proposition.

I just think that once you get out of the top 10 or maybe top 15 the excitement of getting a stud really drops off so if you can move down 6 or 8 sots, still get a solid guy and pick up another I'm all for it.

Now if someone like Dix or Pryor were there at 21 I'd say take them because I think it would be safe to assume that they are perhapes the BPA (or very close to it) and they also fill a need. If you can get both its pretty much a no brainer as well.

I'll state the obvious of course and say whether Ted stays put or trades down (I don't think he will trade up) will depend entirely on who is still available at 21.

It's always difficult to predict the draft when we're picking so late again, but I am going to guess it will be Xavier Su'a Filo, OG.

He's the highest rated interior lineman in the draft, can play OG or OT, and none of the mocks show anyone picking him earlier.

I am guessing by pick 21 he'll be as high on TT's board as anyone, he'll fill a need and I would guess Ted Thompson will take the best OL over the 3rd best Safety.

If Pryor and Clinton-Dix are on the board, I'd really hope that Ted Thompson has zero hesitation in selecting one.

However, Pryor scares me as a player for two reasons. If you watch his highlight reel  there are way too many times he is leading with his helmet or his head down.

1. Penalties upon penalties upon penalties. If he continues hitting in that manner, it will really hurt the defense getting off the field at times.

2. Injuries. Being a Packers fan, you have to be weary of this. Nothing wrong with being a big hitter but again, in the manner in which it seems like he hits can lead to easy injuries. He could be in for a reality check if he tries to hit a veteran like that.

Worth the risk though because the way he hits can be coached. At least he actually likes to hit...

I'm undecided on Pryor because he wasn'r asked to play deep coverage much in college. If he can't do that, he might still be a good player, but not worth a 1st round pick. I'd probably prefer Moseley, Ebron or Nix in the 1st round.

packerfanoutwest (20m) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (22m) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (33m) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (3h) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (3h) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (3h) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (3h) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (3h) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (3h) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (3h) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (3h) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (4h) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (4h) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (4h) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (4h) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (5h) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (5h) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (5h) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (5h) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (5h) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (6h) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (6h) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (6h) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (6h) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (6h) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (7h) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (8h) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (8h) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (9h) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (9h) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (9h) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (9h) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (9h) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (9h) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (9h) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (9h) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (9h) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (9h) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (9h) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (9h) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (9h) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (9h) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
Zero2Cool (9h) : Falcons, Buccaneers would need to win final two games.
Zero2Cool (9h) : Yes, if they win one of three, they are lock. If they lose out, they can be eliminated.
packerfanoutwest (9h) : as I just said,,gtheyh are in no matter what
Zero2Cool (9h) : Packers should get in. I just hope it's not 7th seed. Feels dirty.
packerfanoutwest (10h) : If packers lose out, no matter what, they are in
packerfanoutwest (10h) : both teams can not male the playoffs....falcon hold the tie breaker
packerfanoutwest (10h) : if bucs win out they win their division
beast (10h) : Fine, Buccaneers and Falcons can get ahead of us
