McCarthy hires Ron Zook and Sam Gash to fill open coaching positions

Green Bay - Packers coach Mike McCarthy is going with NFL-experienced coaches with ties to him or members of his staff to fill a pair of openings on his staff, an NFL source said.

Ron Zook, who coached with McCarthy at New Orleans and served as head coach for Illinois and Florida, and Sam Gash, a former teammate of quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt, have been hired to fill the spots.

I remember Sam Gash from his playing days. Wasn't he a Patriot for a little while? I think he was during Super Bowl XXXI.

Oh Geez! It just hit me… this really is the off season, isn't it? And, we only have…. uh, …. 3 months till the draft?

So he has ties to McCarthy, experience as a DC and also spent time in Pitt so he has experience with the 3-4. Perhaps he will be able to give Dom some ideas he may not have thought of.

Wonder if this is a Develop our next DC plan.

Hiring a castoff (Gash) from a dysfunctional team (Lions) and hiring a guy that has been out of work for 2 years (Zook) just because he is your buddy, does not make me feel all warm and fuzzy.
