Yeah, and it's not really a valid comparison anyway. The 49'er's and Packers are obviously vastly different teams and have substantially different circumstances. But regardless, if the game truly comes down to who can pound the rock the best, who has the advantage? The Packers rushing offense vs. the 49'er's rushing defense, of the 49'er's rushing offense vs. the Packers rushing defense? Hopefully Rodgers can still pass the ball well.

They may not miss a beat but who know, makes it interesting at least.

I am most worried about the OLBs outside contain this game and the constant biting on the inside run. Numerous times, the Bears ran a designed run that bounced outside and pretty much every time, the OLB bit and was trapped inside. That worries me with that garbage run option.

Its time for Raji to find his balls and get some push on the defensive line. It would be awesome if the Packers had Johnny Jolly and Matthews for this game. The defense would play out so much better with those two in the line-up. Time for the defense to put up or shut up.

Offensively, I don't think the Packers should have many issues. For the sake of the run game, please stop running that awful pitch/toss play. It is quite possibly the worst run play in that playbook. It didn't work ONE TIME against the Bears worst ranked run defense. DO NOT RUN THE PLAY!

It all hinges on whether or not Dom can put it together for a game. Will we stop the run? They don't even have to be perfect. Just show up enough to get some stops, like they did against the Bears.

If Kaepernick grew up in Milwaukee, he knows how to play in the cold.

That's a very misleading stat, but not for the reasons you think. Off the top of my head, Kaepernick's played in one cold weather game. That was a 34-degree game in New England last year. It was sloppy conditions, though. Regardless, there is a huge difference between 34 degrees -- which isn't that cold -- and the current forecast  for this Sunday, which calls for single digits or below zero temperature. This could be one of the coldest games in NFL history. Simply put, we don't know how Kaepernick, Rodgers, their receivers, or anyone will act. I suspect this is a slight advantage for the Packers. Is it enough to tip the scale? I don't know about that, but I’m looking forward to finding out.

They regrouped at half time and had 3 long drives in the second half. That temp was 20 degrees with a wind chill around 6 and they were miserable the whole game. With the later start time and the falling temps this is going to be a harder game to regroup. Add to that SF is 800 miles further south. That is like going from GB to Batesville, Mississippi.

That's the 1 game sample from this year lol. Since 2010 (I didn't feel like looking back any farther) Rodgers has a 24-4 (26-6 counting Bears game)TD/INT ratio in under 40. I don't think Kaepernick has even thrown 50 passes in those circumstances in his career so who knows how he actually is in the cold.

For reference, his QB rating since 2008 is 105.4.

Rodgers has played in two games in which the starting temperature was single digits or worse: 2008 away to Chicago (6 degrees; 2 TDs, 1 INT, 87.6 QB Rating) and 2008 home against Houston (0 degrees; 2 TDs, 1 INT, 104.2 QB Rating).

I started looking because I pulled some numbers like these a few years ago when people were saying we absolutely had to have a running game because we can't pass in the cold. What I remembered finding was that the numbers were not all that different in cold weather vs. warm weather, especially if you focus on outdoor games where wind can be a factor (in 20 career dome games, Rodgers has a 117.2 QB Rating... probably due to Minnesota being shit).

All that said, wpr, steveishre, and co. are spot on in saying it's not a valid comparison as most of those below 40 or whatever games you want to pull are going to be nothing like the game this weekend. The game this weekend might be a once in a generation game weather wise. It'll be fun to see how that weather affects the two teams.

I'm just unsure which team it will hurt the most. I certainly think it will hurt the Packers to some extent, but hopefully it hurts the 49'er's in the same way, or more. I still remember how cold and miserable Favre looked in the 2007 NFC Championship game.

I like the idea of Rodgers to Cobb in this crazy weather. Cobb can take a few short passes and turn them into huge scores. This could offset what SF does in the run game as you can bet they are going to pound Gore all day long.

If somehow the Pack can strike early and get a two score lead it would change everything. Maybe a Hyde Hyde Ho return and Cobb weaving thru for a big score?

Certainly not out of the realm.

We just gotta keep up with their scoring because I don't see our defense stopping them. I think we can do that. I expect another close game.

New Orleans victory means winner of Packers-49ers game goes to Carolina

The winner of the Packers-49ers game will play No. 2 Carolina on Sunday, Jan. 12, at noon in Charlotte.

The Saints victory keeps alive the possibility that the Packers could host the NFC Championship game on Jan. 19.

Not to jinx us by looking forward or anything, but WOW. We can beat Carolina. lol

Hardest game will be getting through this week... It's there for the taking, boys...

8 PM -1° Mostly Cloudy / Wind FEELS LIKE:-22° WIND:NW at 21 mph
9 PM -2° Mostly Cloudy / Wind FEELS LIKE:-24° WIND:NNW at 21 mph
10 PM -4° Mostly Cloudy / Wind FEELS LIKE:-27° WIND:NW at 21 mph
11 PM -7° Mostly Cloudy / Wind FEELS LIKE:-31° WIND:NW at 22 mph
12 AM -8° Mostly Cloudy / Wind FEELS LIKE:-32° WIND:NW at 22 mph

Don't care what the "experts" say weather conditions = advantage Packers.

Mike Ditka and Sterling Sharpe are only 2 "analysts" who are picking Packers.
I suddenly like The Packers chances to win.

Everybody is just waiting for The Defense to fail!!!
What is fail?
Hold the 49rs under what #?
Did Colts defense fail yesterday giving up 44 pts?
Did Saints defense fail holding Eagles to 24 pts?

Been saying it all year, today's NFL is all about SCORING!!!!

As much as I want to see Eddie Lacy and James Starks punishing The 49r defense, IMHO, the key to victory is turning Aaron Rodgers and his playmakers loose and DON'T LET UP!!!!

As we all saw yesterday NO LEAD is large enough.

This game will be won through the air, Packers offense has to be almost perfect, no turnovers, convert 3rd downs, extend drives, keep 49rs offense off the field.

Doesn't matter what happened the previous 17 weeks, EVERYBODY has the same record starting yesterday.

Win the turnover battle, win time of possession, control both lines of scrimmage, it's a simple game when you break it all the way down.

Packers 42 - 49rs 38

edit:
Wild, wild-card games: The matchup of the Packers (8-7-1) and the 49ers (12-4) is the fifth time in wild-card history that one team has had at least four fewer regular-season wins than its opponent. It may come as a surprise that in the previous four games, the team with the fewer regular-season wins has won every time. It last happened in 2011, when the Denver Broncos (8-8) beat the Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4).

On a side note - this team seems to play their best football when they are deemed the underdogs, and that is exactly what they are today. Give 'em he'll guys!

Question: When I saw the Ice Bowl many years ago (on TV), the coils failed, and the ground was froze solid and slippery. I'm assuming that's what it will be like today - not like in Philly last night where it was really cold, but running speed wasn't affected. Can somebody up there say whether it is slippery frozen ground or not?

DBs will slip; Receivers will get open; Even though their QB had a good game throwing last time, our QB has generally better accuracy.

Slower, less athletic defenses are equalized by bad conditions - which helps us.

Packers 38 Niners 20 - IF conditions really are that bad.

BTW, it was 72 degrees here in Texas yesterday hahahaha.
