Is Haynesworth really worth the money? There are a few warning signs with him (only big year was his contract year, etc.). Many people are saying he will be a space eater but won't be as disruptive of a player on another team. He is the only player out there I see worth getting too, unless Peppers is available.

Been saying that for a couple of weeks.. Haynesworth is a huge risk.. had more than on brush with disipline and monetary motivation verse performance questions.

Personally, for the money he is going to command.. I would rather pass.

...and again, the argument that nobody in FA is good enough or worth the money.

So what are we left with?

Oh yeah, Ted Thompson 's draft picks?

Great. That's worked out well.

Okay.. swing it way over to the left then.. just looking for a fight.

That isn't the case either.. but the value needs to be there in terms of player contract and fit.. an believe me, I think over the past two years there were players out there that fit and signed for reasonable dollars..

Speaking of one case of a player that elevates his game when the contract is on the line and has some concerns with discipline.

We are what we are.. we only have so many shells to fire in the free agent market.. we are not a Dallas or Washington that seems to be able to keep shelling out the signing money hand over fist..

Do I think we should be at least active.. hell yes.. but we can't go nuts with the money just because we have room under a very inflated cap... liquid cash is the key.. and we only have some much in the reserves..

There is a difference between saying a specific player is not worth the money with the risks involved and saying there are no FA worth the money.

Passing on a player like Haynesworth could allow 2-3 other slightly lesser FA be brought in while still having the money to lock up players like Jennings and others that need to be kept in the fold.

Sure Ted Thompson could go out and break the bank for next year like the Jets did. It could result in a SB win, but also could fall short. Look at the Jets now. Coach fired, and with an estimated cap of about 123 million for 2009. Jets are currently sitting 127 million. And no QB really. Granted that losing Brett will drop them back down to 114 million but that leaves very little that they can do for this next season.

I much prefer Ted Thompson approach.

Why not?

We are planning a much in depth look at the current roster, what is in the draft and what is in free agency to be rolled out soon..

We (Packers) are in the offseason already.. as much as that sucks.

I am the "self-elected" Ted Thompson guy (Almost as thankless a task as his job lol) along with his staff, in the (currently) "volunteers needed" thread which Pack93z is referencing. My intention is to provide an in-depth biographical sketch of Ted Thompson and his staff, including scouts and the trainers. For example, some might not know that quite a bit of his staff do not reside in Wisconsin at all, but are spread out all over the country based on their area of responsibility...e.g. Our "West" scout lives in San Diego, Ca.

As to Ted Thompson himself, here is a small factoid:

"I think free agency is a very interesting tool to use to help you patch some holes and do some things," said Thompson, who signed five unrestricted free agents in 2006, the Packers' most since 1998. "There's no reluctance on our part. We do try to make certain that what we do is not just fantasy football. We're investing in a player that's got to come in and play a particular role. If we don't think that player can perform to that contract, then it doesn't make sense for us to do it just to say, 'Look what we've spent.' "

Like the thread being referenced, Volunteers are needed, contrasted with "airing of the Grievances". Festivus is over, I believe. :thumbright:

My intention is to "kick off" the new "project" on Friday. There will be a new thread started, and I will start it, at least this is the plan.

Please Volunteer, your contribution is what you can do, not what anyone says you must do. We can use anyone, with any perspective. You can make up your own category if you want.

LT was is it bashing saying Ted Thompson won't sign any big name FA? Its the facts man just the facts lol. Sure bring up Woodson but cmon Woodson him self said we weren't his first choice. Ted Thompson signs the basement free agents.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
