TT will not break the bank for Haynesworth ( which I am not sold on this guy anyhow), he will let Sanders be and do not look for any big time FA to come in. He will fill the slots with 2nd tier players as he did by signing Chillar. Ted Thompson is no Ron Wolfe, so do not look for anything major to happen, you will only be upset if you do.

Wow......you'd think we LOST yesterday.
Wasn't it Ted Thompson that signed Woodson?
And he TRIED to get some FA signings last season. Just because you WANT a player doesn't mean you will get him.
I think Ted Thompson is gonna surprise you.

While you're checking that crystal ball of yours on the upcoming moves the Packers will make this spring, could you check on who ends up winning the Super Bowl too?

I think he'll get one decent free agent and that's about it. This team is fixable without signing Haynesworth or another big big name. If we get a good DT in the draft that can help out immediately(leave your Harrel jokes out of this post) then we could have a good defense again quickly. With Jenkins, Barnett, and Bigby healthy this defense basically adds 3 very strong players from this years team. Yes, we had Barnett and Bigby for a good amount of the season but we were still in contention when Barnett was healthy and Bigby was hurt since the second game and never actually at full health. This team has a lot less holes than everyone thinks they have.

The OLine is somewhere that I would like to see a free agent get added. We need some type of set rolls on the offense and get all of this shuffling business nipped in the butt.

It is a good thing the team is not really that far away then. I would say the addition of 3 good players and the team is right in the running for the SB. Fix the trenches is all that needs to be done.

I agree with all, but too many are expecting something major and I do not think that will happen. Would love to see us solidify our OL and DL, but would like to see us take a DE/LB in the draft. There are alot of solid DT and OL in FA.

While you may be prophetic in your assessment for this offseason, I don't honestly believe that it is not what he would like to do.

Instead, I believe that Ted would want to bring in a few higher caliber players via FA.. but I honestly believe that the guaranteed money that players are getting in year 2,3, and 4 is the reason we have been sitting a little more idle at times in FA.

Look at the deals he has inked, this current staff is loading them up in year one or 2.. and tailing the deals off after that, so that we may part company if the player doesn't perform.

Not many players on the open market, want to frontload the deals like that.. they want that security later in the contract.. which is fine and all...

But here is the rub, with the CBA looming and revenue sharing being part, it is a smart play to control the contracts in the short term and not get this franchise into a long term financial mess...

Like it or not, we are a franchise that breathes in the competition because of the revenue sharing.. that there is a scary little proposition if the Jones of the world get their way.. which is re-shifting the revenue sharing model.

Go back, and look at the deals.. it is telling IMO.. and it also speaks volumes of why we aren't as attractive to free players.. they want long term guarantees.. not first year loaded deals with little past year 2.

I don't agree that player want security in the later part of a contract. They mostly seem to want the guaranteed money in the beginning. They know that anyone of them are 1 injury away from not playing again.
Ted Thompson has written contracts that leaves options available. They do not have the huge SB that later in the years prevents players from being traded or released because of a big cap hit. But they still get the player the money they want up front.

I am talking about the guaranteed money.. not the fluff they tack onto the end of the deals.. guaranteed money ensures that the player sees more of the "fluff" money that is in the contract..

Is Haynesworth really worth the money? There are a few warning signs with him (only big year was his contract year, etc.). Many people are saying he will be a space eater but won't be as disruptive of a player on another team. He is the only player out there I see worth getting too, unless Peppers is available.
