Surprise player - I'm gonna go alittle out there and say Brandon Jackson. I just wish our coaches wouldn't be so stubborn and would give this guy some more carries instead of force feeding the ball to Ryan Grant. We have the makings of a good 1-2 punch, just need to utilize it. Brandon Jackson runs hard, fights for extra yards, can catch the ball (Remember Grant had that HUGE drop last game), and most importantly he just makes plays.

Disappointment - The ENTIRE defense.... Where have you guys gone???

I think it has to be Tramon Williams. He was pretty good as the nickel late last season, but I didn't think he would hold up so well when he was forced into a starting role by Harris's injury. He has been picked on in these past two games, but I still would give him the nod. And Bigbyfan makes an excellent point about Brandon Jackson. He would be my runner-up.

Brandon Jackson has had a few flashes, but I don't think he's good enough to start over Grant yet.

edit --

Remember last year when he had to start because of injuries. Did he do that great?

I dont want him to start, I want him to split carries.

On your other point, those were his first games as a pro... He has improved greatly and deserves more carries than he is getting

I'm going to mention Kampman, even though his performance wasn't completely a 'surprise'.

Happy Suprise: Aaron Rodgers - did everything and more than I expected, both before and during the season.

Unhappy Suprise: Nick Barnett - seems to have lost his devil-may-care edge and enthusiasm after getting paid.

As much as I want to agree with you about Nick Barnett, I do agree with you about Aaron Rodgers. I don't think Barnett has 'quit' because he got paid, these guys are football players who LOVE the game, especially Barnett, hes one of the leaders on our team, hell might even be the outright leader at this point with the departure of someone I won't name. He's the most vocal player on the Packers, and yeah his play might have been not up to par before he hit the IR, but I do no think it is fair to say that hes quitting after he got paid, especially a stand up guy like Barnett, imho.

The biggest surprise to me was Tramon Williams over that midseason period. Overall for the season, probably Collins and Rodgers.

If it takes trading Al for a Albert Haynesworth or Julius Peppers, I would consider it. I like Al Harris a lot as a player, though. I don't know, I know the NFL is a business, but I don't really want them to get rid of him.

"go.pack.go." wrote:

I agree, I hope Harris stays, also I don't think we will land Haynesworth or Peppers in free agency, But I looked up the 'scheduled' UFAs in '09, and found several interesting names that could definitely add a few defensive play makers, and depth.
Terrel Suggs (DE/OLB) - He plays a 3-4 outside linebacker, which basically is a stand up defensive end. In our 4-3 he would be great opposite of Kampman to provide an excellent pass rush.
Karlos Dansby (OLB) - I really like this guy, stand up guy and hard working player, also, MILES ahead of Poppinga in pass coverage, I'm sorry I've never been a huge Poppinga fan, gets beat in coverage too much for my liking, and they always seem to be a crucial moments in the game.
Kevin Carter/Bertrand Berry (DT) - Alternates to the big names like Haynesworth and Criminals like Tank Johnson (LOL) Both Solid Players that could help build a exceptional rotation on the defensive line.

Sorry, know I got off track a little bit, but Ive been hearing a lot of high hopes for guys like Julius Peppers and Albert Haynesworth, and I don't think we have a shot in hell at landing them unless Ted Thompson stays in the Christmas spirit over the offseason
