The last two games of 2011 regular season Greg Jennings was not on the field at all and the Packers scored 35 and 45 points, with the latter being without Aaron Rodgers! Clearly, the offense can survive without Greg Jennings.

With the facts now laid out, I'd still rather keep Jennings over... (oops dropped my keyboard) ... I'd rather keep Jennings over ... (fuck, dropped it again!) ... one more time ... I'd rather keep Jennings over Finley if it came down to one or the other.

I just don't understand how Finley cannot catch the ball. Really looking back at all my excitement when his contract was extended. [palm]

I was pro-Finley all last season and this past off-season. Consider that changed...don't care for him anymore. Watched him closely yesterday and he wasn't pulling any special coverage on defense. He wasn't doing anything spectacular. Another dropped pass that hit him in the hands and a critical fumble, resulting in Bears points (right?).

Yesterday, I thought and posted under the Jennings thread after McGinn had wrote an article about trading him. The offense clearly sputters or fails without Jennings on the field. At this point, if anyone should be traded on the offense, it is Finley. It just might be too late to get anything of value for him because he can't catch, can't make the big play, and has a big mouth at some times. He demonstrates all three of those traits constantly.

Over him.

I think Jennings missed the Chiefs game, but that was an entire meltdown by the Packers.

I gave Finley his mulligan and used common sense for it, but to have it continue this season? Nope. Two games in a row with drops, key 3rd down drops ... that's enough for me.

Jennings helps the Packers by spreading the field... he helps create spacing for others in the Passing game with his talent and route running.

Finley does that same with his size/speed ratio.. he stresses a defense because he poses a match up issue. Backer will match is physicality.. but most will struggle with his speed. Corner can't match his physicality if he imposes it. Safety.. great.. but most safeties are their because they lack flexibility in coverage to play the edge, so many struggle to cover him.

Both players play important roles in the Packers scheme.. personally, I think Jennings is easier to replicate of the two. That is, if Finley can catch the ball to complete his effectiveness... it isn't so much his drops.. it is when those drops occur. Being that he is targeted more so in red zone and short yardage situations, they draw more attention.

IMO.. this is a concerning problem overall for the last couple seasons.. drops. And it is spread out among the players. I can't think of one receiver of the main core that hasn't had the dropsies at one time or another.

If Finley can return to early form in terms of catching the ball.. I would keep him over Jennings due to the additional impact he has upon the rest of the offense. He is a tough match up for a defense that exposes holes for the Packers elsewhere.

A case of the drops is like a batter going through a slump. It happens. The problem with Finley is he's not breaking out of this slump.

For all you guys who want to get rid of Finley, who would you replace him with? I'd rather have Finley than some backup who can't even get open. Besides, he's a legitimate threat and takes coverage away from the WRs creating more options. Crabtree won't do that.

Walking out of Lambeau after the Giants playoff debacle, I told my son, "Finley has got to go".
I hold that opinion to this day.
The Packers would be better without him.
