Why Benson instead of Grant?
Anyone have a reasonable explanation?

Admittedly, this is just the infamous "eye test" and I'm not even looking at the stats. The statistics could be misleading anyway given the differences in offenses now. I just feel like he is a more physical running back than Ryan Grant and overall more talented. I could easily be wrong, it's just what I see. Apparently I'm not alone, though. Although I must say, I'm not sure if his physical style is the best fit for our offense, but he should have a decent average in the Packer's offense against many 7 man fronts. Also, he is very similar to Ryan Grant in that he needs a lot of carries to really find his groove. Since that won't happen often, it will likely be a problem. If he makes the team, he very well might not be that successful. He won't get a ton of carries and he'll be splitting some time.

My two cents (in current purchasing power...ahem):

Benson signed for less money.

Can't get much enthusiasm up for either one. Reminds me of the days of trying to get enthusiastic about Barty and Barry Smith. Bleh.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I hope CM3 gets locked up before he becomes a Perennial Pro Bowler.

I'm with Wade, except I don't really get excited about RBs anyways. You want a RB who is decent. If they're good, they demand money and that money will come out of important positions. Not a good thing.

So Benson's a perfect fit. Aging. Mediocre. Holds on to the football and can block. See, 🇹🇹 and I think alike at least when it comes to RBs. =d>

By the way, I see that Benson's goal is 1000 yards this year....I like this guys comment from PFT.....

To reach 1,000 yards, he’ll have to overcome:
(1) not being the starter;
(2) playing on a pass first team;
(3) fumbling;
(4) the fact that he’s now nothing more than a short to mid-range RB;
(5) new to the Pack system;
(6) in worse shape than the rest of the league since his training camp start is late; and
(7) age.
Other than that, he should be fine.

Still, Benson's a perfect fit for the Packers. I couldn't be happier. We get a RB who gets 3.8 yards a carry then falls down. As long as he falls down still holding the ball.

Running's not important in today's NFL. You got yourself the best RB in the past 5 years and look where it got you.
