One other thing.

I expect many of the people here (all?) know far more about the theory of networks than I do. What if we think of American civilization as a network of nodes, with each individual node linked by his or her associations. For example, I'm linked by PackersHome, by dog lovers, by evangelical Christendom, by anarchists and libertarians, by my family, by my colleagues, by the Economic and Business History Society, and so forth. Along comes the Walker virus (or whatever other "bad guy/idea" you think is part of our current (bad) health. In short, we're doomed unless we can massively hack the hubs.

Network theory says that if we're dominated by several hubs (CNN, the White House, Harvard, the IRS, whatever), then the corruption of those hubs, whether internal to the hub itself or external through someone linking to the hub. On the other hand, if the bulk of the network remains a well-distributed set of nodes that can reach each other by a variety of routes, attacking (or changing) the hubs isn't going to get us anywhere. People won't be re-shaped, they'll just find another route.

So what do people think? Can we change America by changing who controls the hubs?

Has Walker.. or any other politician for that matter, really made effective changes in office.

It seems the most they do is shift money and power from one group to another. And almost always that shift is to another sector of money and power. Lobbyists and special interest groups run this country through tacked on pork on every bill.

Some might have noble intentions, but honestly, they will cater to those that have the best chance of getting them re-elected or better yet advance further in the political arena. People are only important when it comes time to cast thy vote.

Walker is no different.. watch his ads.. especially those condemning the Milwaukee economy.

Where did Walker cut his teeth? You guessed it Milwaukee.

In his work there.. he cut 20% of the county employees, yet managed a budget increase of over 35%.

His tenure included this notable report..

The Greater Milwaukee Committee produced a report indicating that the county had come to be "in such dire financial shape that state lawmakers should push through legislation that would allow it and other local governments to file for bankruptcy" as reported in the JSonline.

Look.. Barrett is running just as thinly veiled campaign in this little recall shell game.. but to think Walker is in it for us, for the citizens of Wisconsin is being overly optimistic.

Walker has cut public spending in the forms of wages, benefits and education, but how much has he given up in tax breaks and cash flow savings to Big Business? The same businesses that look at employees as nothing more than a short term asset and revenue generator. You can run an effective business that way, sure you can, but to paint is as for the people just doesn't ass up.

I am very much in favor of the passing of the union mentality, but not in favor of taking employee rights and shoving them into oblivion either.

Walker.. Barrett.. whomever.. want to really start working for the people then start balancing the needs of all the citizens.. not just the ultra rich or the Badger care recipients. You know, the dominant chunk of this country that neither feeds at the trough of Wall Street or those living off the government in some form or another.

All I know for sure.. I am sick an tired of half truthed political ads running every few minutes of my life. Between signs on the side of the road.. the radio ads running non stop and the little TV I watch being dominated by this shell game is nauseating.

Or perhaps this one,

First, the original,

Now, a remix.

For me.. it is not so much anger. It is most in the lines of disgust.

Don't know what is worse.. we continue to buy into the current political dynamics and allow it to continue. Or that without radical changes to this country and more than likely more regression short term, we the people don't really have much of a choice but to accept it.

I just don't think we can slowly repair this political model.. I think it is either blow it up and start over or watch the continued long term regression of this great country.

Every society must rise and fall, then rebuild. I just fear we are close to a free fall.

Look at the massive debt this country carries, it just cannot be sustained.

Makes you wonder doesn't it.. how can a simple reclassification of the corporation can take a revenue stream of 4 Billion a year.. with an average tax base of over 2 million can be reduced to zero in a single tax cycle.

I am sure there were losses to consider with the economy nosedive and especially hitting the construction market.. but no end to the creative accounting a firm with that type of financial firepower can muster.

Diane Hendricks , the richest woman in Wisconsin, had a state income tax bill of zero for 2010, state records show.

The goose egg in 2010 was the first zero obligation posted by the Beloit billionaire since at least 2002, according to records from the state Department of Revenue and ABC Supply Inc., the nation's largest wholesale distributor of roofing, windows and siding and owned by Hendricks. She had a seven-figure Wisconsin tax bill in four of the previous five years, the records show.

Hendricks was thrust into the spotlight last month when a videotape showing her talking with Gov. Scott Walker about strategies to fight unions was released. In the tape, which is part of a documentary under production, Walker talked about using a "divide and conquer" strategy toward unions through his budget-adjustment bill, which curtailed most collective bar gaining for most public employee unions and created a political uproar that will culminate with Tuesday's recall election.

An active financial supporter of conservative causes, Hendricks has given Walker's campaign more than $500,000, making her Walker's largest donor.

Her state tax obligation dropped from $2.26 million for 2009 to zero for 2010 because of a change in the corporate structure of ABC Supply said Scott Bianchini, ABC tax director. The company paid taxes of $373,671 for the second half of 2010, the records show.

Bianchini explained that before 2010, ABC Supply was an "S" corporation, meaning the profits and the tax obligation flowed to Hendricks as the owner of the firm. In 2010, the company changed its structure so the profits and the tax obligation stay with the company.

"Now ABC is paying taxes on its own," Bianchini said.

Hendricks' March net worth was estimated by Forbes Magazine to be $2.8 billion - some $300 million more than Helen Johnson-Leipold, chief executive of Johnson Outdoors Inc. The magazine last year listed Hendricks as No. 188 on its ranking of the wealthiest people in America, a spot that had her as the financial equal of William Randolph Hearst III.

Bianchini declined to comment when asked whether Hendricks, who is chairman of ABC, had other income such as salary or dividends that could have been taxed in 2010.

He also declined to say why ABC's tax bill in 2010 was so low compared with what Hendricks had paid on its behalf in prior years, when its profits flowed to her bottom line.

"Diane is not willing to divulge any more," Bianchini said. "ABC converted to a 'C' corporation - that's a substantial part of why there's no 2010 tax liability (for Hendricks)."

He added that there were other reasons Hendricks paid zero state income taxes in 2010.

"We're just not willing to get into it," Bianchini said. "It's just digging, in our opinion, too deep into her taxes."

Hendricks, who worked with her husband, Kenneth, in building ABC, became chairman of the company after her husband died in 2007. The company now posts annual revenue of more than $4 billion.

Just to be fair and to illustrate a point.. it isn't just Walker that is being bought.

Just think the good that could be done with 21 million to actually solve issues.. instead of propping up a puppet to sway things into your favor. It is apparent that many have money to contribute freely.. do it where it may actually do this nation some good.

I suppose an argument could be made for those getting paid by the election process and the TV stations earning additional income. Trickle down benefit to the country.. :)

MADISON  — A government watchdog group says outside groups have spent more than $20 million in Wisconsin’s gubernatorial recall.

Democrats forced Republican Gov. Scott Walker into a recall after he introduced a bill all but ending collective bargaining for most public workers. Walker faces Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in Tuesday’s election.

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign has been tracking recall spending since the recall drive began in November. The group says outside special interest groups have spent $21.5 million on the governor’s race.

The top spender is the Right Direction Wisconsin political action committee operated by the Republican Governors Association with $8.7 million.

The second biggest spender is the Greater Wisconsin Political Independent Expenditure Fund, a corporation created by the liberal attack group Greater Wisconsin Committee. The fund has spent $4.8 million.

Top tax lawyers don't make $500 and up an hour for reminding their clients to take the Earned Income credit. They make it for ensuring that the tax code and Treasury regulations are written in ways that benefit their clients by tens of millions.

That's why so many really rich people oppose the flat tax. They know they can manipulate just about any rules the do-gooders and the social engineers and the rest are going to come up with. Virtually every "loophole" the rich bastards take advantage of had its origin in "tax reform" that claimed to be for the poor, the working class, the middle class, or all three.

So in the end.. it doesn't matter the part of the candidate.. both sides are in someones pocket.

I hate to make a mockery of the election process.. but I would be more inclined to vote a write in say a John Axford ahead of either party candidates. I know I would have more faith in that guy over either Walker, Barrett or any other party line candidate.

BTW.. no I am not voting Axford.. that is just a simple reference for a point. I just happen to think that cat might be the classiest athlete out there today. Humble, direct, intelligent and well read. Wish more athletes were in his mold of how they handle themselves in the public eye. I know him not personally.. and really that is none of my accord.
