It is very odd that he'd leave for such a position. It would definitely seem to be a downgrade. He's basically functioning as the "owner" here. Makes me wonder if there's more to the story.

Be interesting to see how they replace him. I've heard Ted doesn't know how long he can continue working as hard as he does. He could conceivably bump up a notch. Then again we already lost Reggie McKenzie, John Schneider and Reinfeldt, who would have been logical candidates. Eliot Wolf just got promoted, so he's probably not ready.

Andrew Brandt left on probably unfriendly terms, so he won't get the job. I'm sure they have a list of candidates. Just hope the new guy doesn't change too much.

Apparently this was nothing more than a rumor per the Packers.

Simply put... this reads like a writer stretching for a story. Probably using the movement of coaches between the ranks to try and link to this hypothetical move.

But the difference between college and the pros at the executive level differs substantially in terms of exposure, money and probably the worst of it.. the rules.

The NFL for the most part is very well defined about its rules.. the college level the NCAA deliberately allows gray within the rules to not only control the bowls, but more importantly the money. Rules are in constant flux and the NCAA seems to interpret them differently at will depending upon the school and the coaching staff.

Personally, I think the worst job in sports is being involved in oversee a college sports program.

Makes little sense for Murphy to consider the job, let alone display interest in the form of an interview.

As Foster noted.. he might have one of the most coveted jobs in sports.. a "de facto" owner without the investment risks.

If it's so easy, and our executive committe is so adept at finding a good/great exec why did we go through the 70's and 80's like we did?

The 70's and 80's were a product, IMO, of poorly ran personnel departments and way to much reluctance to make fundamental changes in place of band aids. Names like Tom Braatz make me shudder.. but the thoughts of Bart Starr's reign and Coach and GM make on realize more often than not.. that dual role does not work effectively.

Starr was a great QB.. but just wasn't truly effective as a coach and GM. Fairly or unfairly.. legend or not.. much of the muddling of the 70's and 80's falls upon his shoulders.

93, that was not in reference to you. What I was alluding to was the fact that we've had 3 highly capable people run the Packers. First was Curly Lambeau. Second was Vince Lombardi, he was unique in that he really wasn't in charge, but he really pretty much ran things because nobody was going to turn down what he wanted. Third was Bob Harlan, he hired the two very good GMs, let them do their job and we won and are winning with them. Hopefully, Mark Murphy can and will do the same for years to come.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

Zero2Cool (3-Jun) : Golden is wearing guardian cap again. I bet he plays with it on too.
Mucky Tundra (3-Jun) : All the stuff I'm reading from Lions fans are pointing at his toe; he more or less has permanent turf toe in one of his big toes

Zero2Cool (28-May) : Love says knee affected him all season, groin injury didn't help matters.
Zero2Cool (28-May) : I used to enjoy him on FOX Pregame. Now it's like a frat party of former Patriots.
Zero2Cool (28-May) : LaFleur on Watson: “Christian is doing outstanding. I would say he’s ahead of schedule.”
Martha Careful (28-May) : Bradshaw is a dumb ass cracker. I am so tired of his "aw shucks" diatribe. He should shrivel up and go away.
buckeyepackfan (28-May) : He wad all butt hurt because Aaron duped the media saying he was immunized.
buckeyepackfan (28-May) : Bradshaw needs to retire. He's been ripping on Rodgers ever since the covid crap. He was all hury
