Nick Perry mature beyond his years

GREEN BAY — Only hours before the NFL draft, William Tandy received a text message.

It read: “I will always remember when you said one day I could play in the league. My dream is coming true.”

Tandy didn’t have to look at who sent it.

He knew.

For it was Tandy who told a 12-year-old Nick Perry that one day he would play in the NFL. Only hours after Tandy received that text and 10 years after he made his bold — or in his mind-not-so-bold — prediction, the Green Bay Packers used the 28th overall pick in the draft to select Perry, the pass-rushing specialist from USC who likely will be their starting right outside linebacker this season.

I liked Perry early on, the more I read the more I like him. I also like the personal aspect of the the article. Sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders and uses it wisely. Of course, there is always much good print about draft choices and UFAs. I'm anxious to see him produce on the field.

There is just so much upside to this kid that he will make this defense better as years go by. He seems like he is smart and always willing to work hard. He already has a friendship with Clay Matthews and the USC ties...just makes him being a Packer that much better.

I think both Nick Perry and Jerel Worthy could turn out to be enormous steals in this draft class. Man, I can hardly wait to see the impact of these two players on the other 9 defenders we will be lining up. This could be really fun to watch...

Nick Perry seems like everything we've been hoping for opposite Clay Matthews. This will be a different team, entirely, from 2011. We'll see it in the results, and of that I have no doubts. Our defense just got WAY better. There is a lot to prove, but I like our chances, and the draft choices Ted and his staff made to improve this football team.
