I have said since Day 1 that Perry looks "lost in space". BUT he is so athletic and wasn't asked to do that a ton while at USC, so he should transition OK. It will be up to Capers and Greene to make sure he does that. Let's not mistake something though, they won't put him in positions to fail. He can get to the QB as well as ANY player in this draft and he fills a HUGE NEED for the Packers.

This pick was a B+

I worry about his transition. He's such a good player with his hand in the dirt. He really accelerates off the ball. If he can maintain that acceleration standing up, then that is very good news for the Packers. I’m admittedly not excited about the pick, but you have to trust the coaches. There’s obviously talent here. You don’t run a sub 4.6 forty at 270 and not have big-time ability.

He will not be able to cover anyone. My prediction.

If you think about it how often do our OLB have to be in any significant coverages? Most of the time they are rushing or defending the run. Half the time they are in coverage it's something simple like covering the flat. If he brings the pass rush they think he will then who cares if he sucks for the 10ish% of his total snaps that he has to run down the seam to try and cover a TE.

After reading this thread I have concluded our linebackers do not do anything in coverage.

I don't even care if the guy couldn't cover my Grandma. If he can get to the opposing QB, that's ALL THAT MATTERS.

OK, it's not all that matters. If he can take some double teams off of CM3 so CM3 can get sacks, that matters too.

If our sack count is anywhere near what it was in 2010, we get our 2nd SB with 🇦🇷. That puts us tied with the Cows and the Niners and only the Steelers to go.

It's all about sacks, folks.

If Green Bay can get into positive down and distances, their 3rd down defense already looks much more potent. On the inside you have Hargrove and Raji; on the outside, Matthews, Perry.

Who knows who it will actually be, but my paper-2-4-5 that we'll be running already has considerably better pass rushing ability. Now, whether they can get teams to 3rd and long is another matter.

Yes, they will be asked to drop into passing lanes in zone coverage at times. That is, however, different from matching up 1-on-1 against the Jeremy Grahams / Vernon Davis types.

Perry would seem to be capable in containing the edge, as well as having enough athletic ability to bend around the corner with some explosiveness versus tackles in pass-rushing so as to get a good rush. Those things would fill a void on our D. If we can do those two things consistently... he'll be an unquestioned improvement over what we had at OLB last year to team with Clay.

Now if Ted can get us a couple of D-line prospects to boost our front-4... I think that would increase our ILB level of play (I'm looking at you, Hawk) and improve our D as a whole back to our Superbowl season caliber.

I think his main weakness as I understand it is lateral change of direction. So if he's man on man with a TE or RB, he might have to run with a guy juking him out or something. That might be a problem as far as shadowing that guy all over the field. But in more of a zone I think he'd be ok and just as far as running down the field with a TE I think he'll be ok.

It's something he can work on. Dude's got major upside, that's for sure.

I do like that he’s not somebody you need to scheme pressure for. This defense lacks somebody that can line up and just beat a guy one-on-one. Clay Matthews even lacks a great pass rush repertoire. Come training camp, I imagine Perry is going to be fun to watch in one-on-one drills.

Is there any chance he comes in as a 3-4 D-End to replace Cullen Jenkins? What made us successful in 2010 was the fact we had a great pass rushing 3-4 DE (he was a good all-round player). All he needs to do is add some weight.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
