Hey Zombie, did you see anywhere that it says Collins retired? I see him going to a NFC Norris team, to show Ted Thompson that he was healthy enough to play.

Just heard on ESPN that Collins agent says Collins isnt sure if he is going to keep playing or retire? HMMMMMM Collins doctor cleared him but Packers doctors didn't?
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Collins loss was about his long term health as a person, NOT a player. Thompson and McCarthy care about (or dare I say love) Collins. This was a decision that they took their time in making and was not made with a dollar sign (cap savings) in mind.

Collins still hasn't been cleared to play and is seeking various opinions from doctors to see if he will be able to ever play again.

I was told that he has an open invitation to be a part of the staff/organization when he is ready.

I loved watching Collins play. He grew so much as a player and it was refreshing to see him live up to his his talent.

More on the Collins release and what could be happening next in the new OTS (out later tonight).

This is just sad. I think the Packers did the right thing. I really hope Nick doesn't risk his health to play again, it's not worth it. Thank you Nick Collins for being one heck of a player for the Packers.

I was waiting for this article to be written. I remember LeRoy Butler expressing his ... thoughts ... on someone wearing his number so soon. Thank you Tom! Click his name to support his hard work!

Butler says Collins made him proud to share jersey No. 36

When he first was told that a second-round pick from Bethune-Cookman was going to be wearing his jersey just three years after he had retired, Packers safety LeRoy Butler was puzzled.

Voted the strong safety of the decade for the '90s, Butler thought it might be a little bit early to be giving his jersey away. Then he talked with first-year GM Ted Thompson.

"He told me, 'We found the right guy to wear that number; that's Nick Collins,'" Butler said in a phone interview from New York, where he'll announce the Packers' second-round pick on Friday. "And he was right. They found a guy who was able to fill my shoes and he was great on and off the field.

"It's one of my saddest days as a Packers fan that he won't be wearing No. 36 anymore. It would be a good opportunity to retire it or put it away for good."

Collins was released Wednesday after the Packers' brass decided they didn't feel comfortable with him playing following single-level cervical fusion surgery. Collins hasn't decided whether he wants to play yet, but he has been encouraged by how he has felt in his recovery and has expressed a desire to return if the doctors will clear him.

Butler said he understood Collins' desire to play again and said it would be up to him "to look the doctor in the eye and have him tell him that it's safe for him to play." Butler said he faced the same situation after the 2001 season when team physician Patrick McKenzie told him his shoulder was in no condition to play again.

Ultimately, Butler took McKenzie's advice and retired. But he was much older at the time and in the twilight of his career. Collins will turn 29 in August.

As for his feelings about Collins, Butler said he couldn't be prouder to have shared the number with him.

"He wore that number with the most honor," Butler said. "It made me happy that they found someone who could wear that jersey with honor for another eight years, I think Nick will be remembered as part of the long tradition of great safeties the Packers have had over the years.

"You're talking Darren Sharper, Eugene Robinson, Willie Wood, myself. There's always been someone keeping that alive."

As for Collins' future, Butler said he could see Detroit or Chicago giving Collins a chance if their doctors are willing to clear him. But he thinks it will all come down to Collins feeling that it's safe for him to return to the game.

"I'm glad he got to play on a Super Bowl team," Butler said. "He was able to get that ring."

Nick may play again for another team. They can not stop him. But they made sure it didn't happen while he was in green and gold.
Obviously THEY know how much risk is involved in playing in the NFL. It is their opinion that the neck injury unnecessarily added risk. There is a huge difference between someone injuring their arm/leg and having to deal with it for the rest of their life and Nick being paralyzed forever.

We all know you disagree with their decision that is your right. Many of us feel it was the right call.

Mucky Tundra (31m) : Geeze Zero get it right!😋
Zero2Cool (1h) : I guess 3 games. Whatever
Zero2Cool (1h) : Bleh, that only impacts two games.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Packers are gonna get 3rd place division schedule next year.
Mucky Tundra (2h) : Kanata, seek help! lol
beast (5h) : I was rooting for the Bears to win and hurt their draft pick status
Zero2Cool (5h) : Forgot there was even a game last night haha
TheKanataThrilla (5h) : That was terrible.
TheKanataThrilla (5h) : Watching that game in its entirety yesterday is proof positive that I am a football addict.
beast (5h) : And horrible time management multiple times... and not being able to score more than 3 points on a team with talent
beast (5h) : Realizing the Bears didn't fix it from the previous week and do the same thing, getting the game to overtime
beast (5h) : They probably are not tanking, but they've absolutely mismanagement some things, such as Vikings seeing the Packers blocked FG and realizing
Zero2Cool (6h) : Crazy of Bears to have that mindset that is
Zero2Cool (6h) : Hail Mary stop away from 5 - 2. Not sure how that flips to tanking. Crazy mindset if true
beast (7h) : I've quietly questioned if Bears are tanking on purpose... they suddenly got a lot worse with some simple concepts like 101 clock management
wpr (9h) : Watching bares fans melt down over how putrid their team is, so enjoyable. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
Mucky Tundra (17h) : The Seattle Seahawks defeat the Chicago Bears 6-3. Jason Myers had 6 RBIs for Seattle while Cairo Santos had 3 RBI for Chicago
beast (17h) : Not nessarily, he might of been injured either way. He's playing about 50% of the games the last 4 years
Zero2Cool (26-Dec) : If they'd been more patient with him, he'd be back already. Putting him out there vs Bears caused him to tweak it and here we are.
packerfanoutwest (26-Dec) : well this is his last season with the PAck, book it
beast (26-Dec) : Sounds like no Alexander (again), I'm wondering if his time with the Packers is done
Zero2Cool (26-Dec) : Could ban beast and I still don't think anyone catches him.
Mucky Tundra (26-Dec) : Houston getting dog walked by Baltimore
packerfanoutwest (25-Dec) : Feliz Navidad!
Zero2Cool (25-Dec) : Merry Christmas!
beast (25-Dec) : Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
beast (24-Dec) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (24-Dec) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
