My dad broke his back. He came back from it for far less that $4.775. And that was more than just a disc with a little stress on it.

I hit the windshield in a car accident when I was 18. I knew something was wrong but didn't do anything about it until I was 38. My hands were going numb all the time. Now I have damage at the C3/4/5 area of my neck and L3/4. I have pain all the time. It affects what I do every single day.

Nick is young. He has no idea how his injury will effect him when is an older man.

Just a food for thought on Collins. I personally think there is more than the "we worry about his health" that MM and Ted Thompson are using. They are business men and I personally think this has something to do with money. I have no proof but something just don't seem right here, He is cleared by doctors but MM and Ted Thompson say they don't want him to play because they are worried about him.

The money comment, makes no sense at all when you wrap thinking around what it'll cost the team to replace what Nick Collins brings.

Sounds like this could get a little clusterfucky for our salary cap, depending on if he retires or wishes to continue playing elsewhere. As much as I would love to see him back playing for the Packers, I can see management's side of the story, not wishing to see anything close to this happening again. If Ted an Mike want him to retire, that could be a difficult task to convince Nick not to play elsewhere, forcing his release from the team.

Is there anything concrete on how retirement v. his release would affect our cap? Seems pretty convoluted from what I understand.

TJ Lang comes to mind - a guy who probably will be hard pressed to stay on after this season with Rodgers, Matthews, Raji and Jennings also being up for renewals afterwards.

Tough calls to be made, and Collins' wish to continue playing could greatly affect our ability to retain some of these guys. I believe if he were to retire, we would realize more cap relief. I am no cap guy though.

Not saying money is their issue. It sounds like they probably don't want Collins to play again, and to continue on to lead a healthy life with his family, and the Packers family, from here on out. As stewards of this team, however, they have to be concerned with how his choice affects our cap.

Everyone saying Ted Thompson and MM are concerned about his health are blind. Cmon folks its all about the money face it and someone brought up the PR disaster a few years ago being bad. Well get ready because Collins will be another PR hit. Look at it in black and white and to the point, MM and Ted Thompson are doing everything they can to keep Collins from coming back. The man had the surgery so he could come back to play football, he is cleared by the doctors but yet the cold hearted Ted Thompson all of a sudden becomes huge hearted and worried about a players health. Get ready to see Collins in blue and silver or playing down in Chicago. As Arrigo said they packers are looking to extend some players this year but we are close to the cap right now. The part I am wondering like play2win brought up, is how strapped are we on the cap room?

As of March 30th the Packers have $3.4 million in cap space. Ok just wanted to throw that out there

edit: ok a little tidbit on found on rotorworld while i was looking for Collins contract details.

Packers FS Nick Collins (neck surgery), "bouncing off the walls" in anticipation of returning to the NFL, is expected to push coach Mike McCarthy and GM Ted Thompson to play if he's given the green light from doctors later this month.
McCarthy has made it clear that all parties involved must be in agreement for Collins to return to the Packers. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, not a single cervical fusion has failed among all NFL players to undergo the procedure. After a 20-year study of NFL players, assistant professor of spine surgery at Northwestern University Wellington Hsu downplays the risks and insists Collins can play "at a high level" again. This is most positive outlook we've seen on Collins' football future. Apr 11 - 9:01 AM

So now tell me that its MM and Ted Thompson worried about his health

dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
