Wow, a 7th-round pick? That's got to feel like a slap in the face for a guy who was (over)drafted in the 1st round.

Though I can't necessarily fault him for anything he has done during this whole fiasco -- except perhaps for caving into public pressure and bumping Tebow over Quinn -- I have to say that John Elway has come off as a duplicitous snake. While I certainly don't feel sorry for Tebow, I think Elway could have been a little more up-front and honest. Telling him he is the starter going into trading camp, then pulling off a blockbuster move like this, strikes me as a little wussy. I would rather have seen him brave the storm of public criticism and just admit that no matter what happened, Tebow's job was never going to be secure.

Brady Quinn throws a pretty spiral than Tim Tebow and I think a deeper pass, but Quinn wouldn't have won half the games Tim Tebow did. Which, keep in mind, Tim Tebow won those games far more BECAUSE of his legs than his arm.

I disagree with the "could have been more up front" aspect because it's simply avoiding the facts an the timeline of events. He's John Elway, not Miss Cleo.

You're arguing that Elway is just being an opportunistic but responsible general manager. Fine, as far as it goes, but I think that's beside the point. I am not saying he should have speculated publicly on the future availability of Peyton Manning (though I think we were all virtually certain Manning was going to be released), since obviously, there was no way to predict what the market for Manning would have been like. My point is that I don't think Elway ever intended to go into training camp with Tebow as his starter. I think he intended to do everything possible to upgrade at the QB position over the offseason, and fortunately for him, the deal with Manning fell into his lap. I think he could have simply said something like "Every position, even the quarterback, is subject to competition every year," and left it at that.

Middle of January comments.

Well, I think Tim's earned the right to be the starting quarterback going into training camp next year.

...

Well, right now as we look at it, we've got two quarterbacks under contract. So, we've obviously got to be in the market to find some more quarterbacks.

John Elway said he thinks Tim has earned the right to be the starting quarterback going into training camp, but also mentions they have only two QB's under contract and would be looking to find more quarterbacks. Turns out, they found one who happens to superior to Tim Tebow.

It's not being snakey, not at all. It's doing what is best for your football team. Now, if John Elway said Tim Tebow IS the starter and then starts making calls to trade Tim Tebow days later, yes, that is snakey.

If the Broncos had signed say Alex Smith or Matt Flynn, most surely the political words would be it's an open competition, even though, we all would assume Alex or Matt would win out.

Is this really something bad? I mean, it is widely accepted that QB is the most important position on the football field. 🙂 (Shawn you know you love it!)

I think it's the job of football staff to do everything possible to upgrade their talent. Just. Saying!!

I'd rather sign Brady Quinn.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
