I think this is kind of funny. It's only one day, but it's what I expect between Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow. I just don't think Tebow has the QB skills to be an effective QB in this league. Orton isn't a superstar but I'd rather him QB my team than Tebow.

The Broncos’ quarterback situation continues to be puzzling.

Multiple reports have indicated that the Broncos will trade Kyle Orton, most likely to the Dolphins. And yet when the Broncos practiced for the first time today, Orton wasn’t just on the field — he was running the show with the first-string offense, and from all accounts outplaying Tim Tebow, the 2010 first-round draft pick who is supposedly the team’s quarterback of the future.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that Orton looked poised and polished, while Tebow looked slower in finding receivers and less accurate in his passing. Klis writes that not only did Orton look better than Tebow, but Brady Quinn looked better than Tebow, too.

Tebow seemed to think he played well, which isn’t necessarily a good sign.

“We’ve got to work on some timing with certain things, but for a first day, I thought it was pretty good,” Tebow said.

When I talk to Bronco's fans here, they are in complete awe of Tim Tebow and shrug off the notion that Kyle Orton could be traded. I think the Bronco's are only going to go as far as Tim Tebow's backup can take them if he's named the starter.

I don't think there's any question that right now, Orton is the better QB. Tebow is the QB of the future though, he finished last season real well, he's a leader and he's gonna keep evolving his game for the next few years.

I definitely think Tebow has a chance to make it in this league, despite what some detractors think. I'm not saying he WILL be great, but he very well could be.

When a QB's best asset is his legs, that's not good and that's Tim Tebow. He is a very good leader, I don't question that. It's his arm and accuracy and in the NFL those are pretty important for a QB. Seems like a nice guy, hope you're right about him getting it together in a few years.

I just don't see how.

I have no opinion on Tebow, but if he is of lesser skill and the Broncos continue to stick with him then the only reason is because someone with decision-making power can't admit their mistake and cut their losses.

I really don't think Tebow played that well last year. Most of his successful throws came on simple routes with no opposing pressure. They set him up to be successful at Florida by surrounding him with elite athletes. Denver has yet to do the same. Still he's a hard worker, which can take you a long way in this league.

So it is either Elway really thinks that kid will develop rapidly or they are being swayed by an apparent strong public support of Tebow. Conspiracy theorists may believe that they are trying to tank to shift support away from Tebow and put themselves in a position to draft maybe a Luck now that the top of the draft's dollars are as big.

Personally, I fail to understand why you don't allow a QB to develop behind another one, then turn them loose when ready, build confidence and thrive. If you wind up having multiple QB's that can play, they are always overvalued and can be moved for value.

I am beginning to think that no one, including Elway, have any real clue in the direction this franchise is going other than maybe that run at the #1 overall pick.. another QB from Elway's old school.

Next item of proof.. signing Derrick Harvey.. lol.

Almost as bad as the Bears signing Golston. 😉

lmao, this is turning into a good battle between Tebow and ... Quinn.

The real competition in Denver could be Quinn vs. Tebow

We know there is a school of thought in Miami that says Kyle Orton could still be traded there. It makes a lot of sense.

In the meantime, Orton could be convincing the coaching staff in Denver that he’s the right man to lead the Broncos. Mike Klis of the Denver Post writes that Tim Tebow is no longer getting any snaps with the No. 1 offense.

“Tim Tebow is in a serious quarterback competition all right. He and Brady Quinn are neck and neck in the battle for the No. 2 quarterback spot,” Kils writes.

Orton is getting all the snaps with the starters, while Quinn occasionally takes the No. 2 snaps over Tebow. If the Broncos are playing a game of chicken here, it’s an expensive one.

They already paid Orton $1.5 million. They owe him $2.9 million in salary even if they cut him. Tebow needs the offense to be tailored around him if he’s going to be the starter, which is hard to do when Tebow is splitting second team snaps.

Nothing would shock us with this situation, but we’re starting to wonder if there was something to that February NFL Network report that said Tebow “lacked support” within the Broncos building.
