Thinking of how it would feel for this to happen to one of my girls is enough to make a guy wish he had the skill set to hunt this despicable prick down myself.

Do a little reading about the Invisible Children organization and you will find out it is mainly a front for the Ugandan army, which has its own history of human rights abuses. There are already a number of exposes out demonstrating how shoddy this propaganda video is.

Thanks, lolleren. I had seen a graphic online that gave a lot of that same information, but I couldn't find it again. The following video isn't well made, but it is well researched and thoroughly sourced.

Whatever the motives of this organization or cult or whatever it truly is or isn't ... it's terrible that these things go on in the world. The sad part is, what this Kony is doing, isn't even the worst thing we have going on in this world.

Rourke, I'm only being overly dramatic with my childish rant cuz I'm bored. I share your skepticism on such "agendas" as well. Sadly, when I hear or read something like this, my first thought is ... am I being scammed? If you were offended at all, I'll give you a coupon for one free day in which I'll take one of your "wimmin" off your hands for a full 24 hours. The narrator of that video makes the fantastic point that supporting military intervention against an army that employs child soldiers is only going to result in the deaths of . . . more children.

It's precisely because I am not cynical about the plight of children in other countries that I oppose whipping the masses into thoughtless frenzies and plunging headlong into yet another conflict that will only result in still more suffering and misery for the innocent and helpless.

Until we mounted sanctions against Iraq, the number-one epidemiological problem in that country was obesity. Now the number-one problem is starvation. Hundreds of thousands of children have endured slow, lingering, agonizing deaths because of actions our nation has taken -- not only from the lack of food, but also the horrific effects of mustard gas and other chemical weapons the United States -- yes, we -- sold to Saddam Hussein's regime. That is a lot of blood on our hands. And it's not like we have made conditions better in that country (or in Afghanistan, for that matter). Their infrastructure is in shambles, their children are suffering from starvation and disease. What makes us think we will do any better in Uganda?

It is always prudent to be suspicious of people who seek to sensationalize and dramatize situations in the world. They often have ulterior motives that have nothing to do with those they purport to help. This is a classic case of such a situation. Invisible Children is pounding the drums for a full-scale military invasion of Uganda, which could result in the deaths of thousands of children. Meanwhile they are pocketing millions of dollars for their filmmaking. Not only do I find that shoddy, I think it dishonors the children they pretend to be concerned about.

If that is cynical, thank God I'm a cynic.

Apparently someone didn't fully read my post, oh well, get sand in your vagina and rub it hard.

I think a good portion of organizations have ulterior motives, but that doesn't mean they are not supporting a worthy cause or issue. Again, I repeat, who cares about the organization itself? Are we supposed to ignore that children are being abused because the organization supporting the effort to end said abuse is profiting?

I don't like it one bit what's happening to those kids, but I can see and think of several agenda's within OUR OWN country that we should tend to first.

Perhaps this is selfish, but I firmly believe you get your house in order before you try telling your neighbors how to run their house. If I have a leaky kitchen ceiling, why should I go to my neighbors and tell them how they should fix theirs when I haven't even fixed mine? Make sense?

In my response to this 'issue'.. I believe KONY 2012 and IC have honorable intentions and heart. I'm in no way against the idea of what they stand for. I also have no issue with how they get or spend their money.

My issue is people only see/hear one side of the story, and while what they may see/hear is informative, it's still only one side. I just would rather people donate to this organization after they get the facts on where their donated money is going to, exactly. If one doesn't like the idea that a third of it or more is being spent on camera equipment, traveling and documenting, then they can choose not to give. The narrator of the KONY2012 video (I'm assuming the IC's head guy) has a great idea and even a better plan.. Exposure gives influence, and influence is power. And with that said, people need to tread those waters carefully.

As a friend of mine told me, "Okay, a little reality check for the Kony nuttery going on...

I know that video jerks your heartstrings and all, and is ramping people up to send the Special Forces into Uganda to go after this mass-murdering terrorist and his army of tens of thousands of brainwashed children to bring him to justice. I get that, I understand it makes you feel righteous indignation to see the video and want to do something about it. The problem is, it is complete and utter BULLSHIT!

First off, Kony and his army AREN'T EVEN IN UGANDA! They were ousted six years ago by the Ugandan military, scattered, and now on the run in neighboring countries. The northern war is over, the rebels ousted, people have gone back to their lives, and there are no LRA members active in Uganda at any overt level. I WORKED WITH THESE PEOPLE, the worst problems they have in the region are land disputes between farmers, for the love of Mike.

Secondly, his "army" numbers in the low-to-mid hundreds, less than the graduating class of a middle-America high school, are poorly equipped, on the run, starving, and generally out of gas. There is no Lord's Resistance Army, there's a bunch of scared kids and older thugs hiding in the Kenyan jungles trying not to get bumped off by the Ugandan, Kenyan, Tanzanian and Sudanese militaries and mercenaries looking to collect the bounties on their heads.

Third, the push is for 100 American military or PMC contractor advisors to train the Ugandan military to hunt him down... um, hate to break it to the crowd backing this, but WE ALREADY DID THAT. Hell, I did it, training the Ugandans we had on the Rapid Response Team, as did many other operators I worked with. They were trained in everything from American military tactics and marksmanship to tactical emergency medicine, trust me, they've been trained already.

Lastly, it also distracts from the fact that child slave soldiers are RAMPANT throughout Sudan, Liberia, and many other nations in Africa. Joseph Kony has maybe a couple of hundred followers, half of them kids. The Sudanese forces have tens of thousands, as do the Liberian thugs. Where's the outrage there? Where's the video for Darfur? Where's the video for Monrovia? This selective outrage to go "save" a nation that doesn't need saving while ignoring the ones who are tits-deep in blood and genocide (i.e., would require REAL work instead of a PR campaign designed to make someone look good on telle and supporters feel good about themselves for having done something to change the world, despite it all being a wag-the-dog phantasm) pisses me off

Just a wake-up call to the Youtube zombies that you are being lied to and manipulated for political or financial agendas."

Now, I believe and trust this friend of mine very much. In that, if he is wrong, then he doesn't know it or the facts have changed since the last of his knowledge.

dfosterf (26-Jun) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.
wpr (26-Jun) : 1st world owners/stockholders problems dfosterf.
Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
