They should just move Lang to Center:

LT - Sherrod
LG - Newhouse
C - Lang
RG - Sitton
RT - Bulaga

Now that is some serious big boy action up front, in which we should be able to finally run the ball some. Wells is a decent pass protector, but let's get real, he and Clifton both sucked at run blocking.

This thread, some folks put Wells at top 5, some said he's over-rated. I don't think anyone thinks Wells is a bad player. I'd rather sign him and keep the draft pick.

With that being said, I agree that not re-signing Wells takes away that pick at a more glaring need on defense. It would be so much easier to discuss this if Ted Thompson occasionally dipped into free agency for a high profile player. Not thinking that he would for another premier center, this does screw up the draft (not re-signing Wells).

What if the Packers were planning on tacking a Center late in the draft, regardless? Scott Wells is 31 after all, it would be a good idea to start bringing aboard potential replacements, even if he is resigned.

Well, the Packers could dip into free agency. For example, Chris Myers is a very, very good center, but Houston wants him back. Ted Thompson usually doesn’t pursue veterans. Maybe he makes an exception because the Packers have no alternatives on the roster to Wells.

Well between Newhouse, Bulaga, and Sherrod there are three starters and only 2 OT positions; and Newhouse is the only one with the flexibility to move inside. I think an effort should be made to get all three of them in the starting lineup. Then keep EDS and draft some developmental players.

I think Ted Thompson will be willing to sign Wells, but there are only two players on this team that can hold a gun to his head and say this is what I want and that is Rodgers and Matthews.
