According to Bob McGinn  these are some bad decisions by the Packers in 2011.

Barnett started all 16 games and played almost every down for the Buffalo Bills, leading them in tackles with 130 and notching four turnover plays. He never missed a day of practice due to injury. His three-year contract averaged $3.8 million.

Hawk started 15 games, playing almost every down. He finished third in tackles with 109 and didn't have a turnover play. His contract averaged $6.75 million.

Bob McGinn  wrote:

He says signing A.J. Hawk and letting Nick Barnett go was a mistake. Barnett did have a fairly decent season last year, but I think it brings up a good question. Would it have been better to have Hawk or Barnett? I'm not sure and haven't thought much about it.

He says relying on Mike Neal to replace the oft injured Cullen Jenkins was a mistake. And that Jenkins should have been brought back. I agree, but Jenkins asking price was pretty high and didn't drop until only the Saints and Eagles got involved. Either way, I always wanted Jenkins back, just didn't want to break the bank for him. I think $6 million a year is good, but reports were he wanted $8+ per.

He says the 32nd selection should have been used on Jabaal Sheard, Brooks Reed or Da'Quan Bowers instead of Derek Sherrod. I don't know enough about the players mentioned to have an opinion.

He says "The Packers' last chance to reinforce their rush ended when they took Randall Cobb over outside linebacker Justin Houston at No. 64. A part-time starter as Kansas City's pick at No. 70, Houston posted 5½ sacks.". I think selecting Randall Cobb was a good selection.

He says selecting Ricky Elmore in the 6th round was his worst pick ever. How is this worse than Justin Harrell? lol

Anyhow, read the whole article, it's riddle with bitterness and well done.

As a whole I agree with the points made in the argument, although much of the article's points are based on looking at things in hindsight. All of us are geniuses when we can criticize after the fact.

His criticism of the Cobb pick was by far the worst point in the article. The Packers have not had a legitimate return threat in 5+ years, and at the time of the draft, J.J. and D.D's status were in the air. Even in hindsight, this was a great pick.

We won the SB with Hawk and Bishop. Hawk could be upgraded upon only if we can get a more playmaking LB. Hawk is solid though.

As for Neal, that didn't work out, but Jenkins was aging and missing more time with injury every year.

Love the Cobb pick. Kid's explosive.

What is completely missing from this is that Barnett kicks ass in 4-3. He sucks in 3-4. We are 3-4.

Barnett > Hawk in 4-3. By far. In 3-4, Hawk > Barnett. By a little. The argument can be made that we made a bad monetary decision by paying Hawk too much. I understand that. But if we stay 3-4, Barnett doesn't have a place on the team.

As for the rest of the article, was 2011 one of 🇹🇹's better drafts? Apparently not. So we missed out on some good defenders.

What surprises me most about these articles is that I didn't hear a single thing all season about how "bad" hawk was playing and suddenly his resigning is Ted's worst move as GM blah blah.

Keep in mind also that Barnett never shut his pie hole, even to the point of causing a distraction the week before the Superbowl, in which not him but the rest of his team was playing.

Most people in Packer nation were content to let Barnett go. His injury history had stacked up enough to merit legitimate concern. And, Hawk had arguably his best season last year. Based on the information they had at the time, resigning Hawk made a lot of sense. As it has been mentioned, everyone is an expert in hindsight.

William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.
