Up until last year, I had argued that Raji was overrated. Last year, I thought I had been proven wrong. This year, I think he was not just overrated. I think he played badly. As Stevetarded pointed out, he didn't win many one-on-ones. It would be one thing if he was being doubled or tripled every play. But as the season progressed, he was usually one-on-one except when the team only rushed three. Clay took two blockers. Pickett usually took two. But Raji? Much more often it was one-on-one.

That doesn't make him "bad." He hasn't been in the league long enough to call him "bad". But he definitely had a bad year.

Here's my priority list of things to fix:

1) DL (Pass rushing DE opposite CM3)
2) S (or CB, and move Woodson to S--I think Woody might do a pretty good Leroy Butler impersonation)
3) WR (DD's probably gone, leaving us Jennings/Nelson/Cobb/Jones--we'll need a 5th, especially if Finley departs)
4) OLB (not as critical if #1 is filled)
5) OL (think we're OK with a starting five if Clifton retires, but will be short when injuries hit)

RBs I think we'd be OK with Starks/Seine/Kuhn.

TEs I think could use improvement, but we'd be OK with the group we have (we were carrying enough of them this year).

QBs I think we're OK with Harrell as backup--they like him enough to bring him up to the 53 man roster to keep him from signing with someone else. We'll need to get HIS backup, but can wait until a later round to do so.

6) Pad level. We need to get that fixed.

Dude's not a speedster, but he's got size like Plaxico. At TE, Quarless will probably get PUP'd, but we should end up with Finley for one more year. I see Ted drafting a QB late as a project. The key here will be if we lose Tom Clements. He's a great QB coach. Mike McCarthy is a QB guru himself, so we should be able to replace Clements if lost, but it is an issue on which to keep an eye. Harrell could become a solid career backup if he continues to progress.
As for Raji (previous poster) I think not only was he playing out of position this year so that Pickett could go back to the nose, but he was also asked to be in there for far to many plays, which probably wore him down.

DBs are my main concern. Woodson age is catching up to him. I don't understand why moving him to safety will address this issue. Is Collin's career definitely done? A key component that is needed is more chemistry on the D. Better communication before the snap will improve the D.

As for DL, I am looking optimistically that Neal will get a chance to improve with a full offseason. If he still is not productive next year then it will be time to move on.

If Collins does return, I look for Woody to continue playing his hybrid CB/S slot position with Tramon and Shields on the outside. Hopefully Davon House takes a step up. The coaches have been doing that thing where they release press statements saying he has to dedicate himself as a pro and whatnot.

As for Neal, he's hopeful that resting his knee will let it get back to 100%.   I think it's possible, and it would be great to see him do so. Personally, his shit really pissed me off this year, but I think he'll be back and he'll be fine. I'm not writing him off as a bust at this point. HOWEVER I do see Ted addressing the position, as well as ROLB.

As for Woodson moving to Safety, the reason why older CBs move to Safety is because CBs are faster than Safeties. You could lose a step and still be a dang good Safety.

Woodson does have a good nose for the football so maybe him playing Safety will result in lots of INTs. We hope.

But yeah, he won't be as good as Collins. But he'll be an improvement over Peprah for sure.

1. Mike Neal for what we had was a major bust. That was Ted Thompson's fault, and it was ABSOLUTELY HUGE, imo. We need a replacement.

2. We STILL need an OLB opposite of Clay. AMAZING the failure to get that fixed, with all the picks used to try and fix it.

3. Now we need another QB.

4. We need a better running back.

5. We may never see Nick Collins again. We need a safety.

6. I really don't care about all these coaches leaving. Example- What the fuck did Winston Moss exactly friggin' do?

Ted blew it for us this year, imo

We just wasted a regular season, and many of us saw it coming.

2. I just want to add in a little dramatization of the conversations going on the last 2 off-seasons.

Wade, Foster: "O-line, o-line, we need o-line."

Rockmolder: "In my very humble opinion, we could use an outside linebacker, because Clay can't carry this thing all by himself. :)"

Wade, Foster: "Go die in a ditch, we need at least 4 of our 7 picks to be O-line. Marines rule, college professors are great."

To be honest, I just wanted to harp on the OLB situation some more and I don't feel like answering the rest of the points very much, so for what it's worth...

3. No.

4. We could, but we're fine without one, as well.

5. Yes. Peprah, lol.

6. Philbin and Moss both leaving might be somewhat problematic.

beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
