In all fairness to Donald Driver, I don't think any of the receivers cut in the preseason would have had significantly higher production than he has had thus far. Heck, Rodgers hit 12 different receivers this week alone. But that was basically my point all along. Since it was likely that Driver would slide steadily down the real depth chart (albeit not the official one), why not give one of our other young guys a chance? The rookie would be significantly cheaper, and retaining him would prevent his being signed by another team. As Randall Cobb proved, a rookie can step in and contribute his first day. A Gurley or West might not have lit the world on fire, but it's doubtful his production would have been significantly lower than Driver's either.

I was hoping they'd go with Gurley, personally. At least he's still on the PS. West is gone to Jacksonville now.

Everyone loves Donald Driver, and he DID have a really nice TD catch vs. Denver, but I think his best days are clearly behind him. He's our 5th most productive WR, and was the 12th most productive receiver at ATL. 5 games in, he has 9 catches, 2 or 3 drops, 76 yards and 1 TD.

Cmon, Donald. Prove me wrong!

Hell, I wanted to trade him three years ago; and I was an asshole but at least I had Dr. Death in my corner.

DD needs to do two things: accept his demotion and renegotiate his contract. At the end of the day this is a business. In the real world, he would have already been rifted.

I'll come visit his corner in the Packer Hall of Fame though, afterall, he's everything the common man admires.

It boils down to a difference in operational philosophy. Some people, mostly assholes like nerdmann and DakotaT, would prefer to see someone cut a year too soon to make way for future productivity, while others, the more tenderhearted among us, prefer to wait one year longer to ensure the player is truly washed up and sent off with all proper honor and obeisance before moving on to new talent.

I am counted among the asshole club too. I'm not sure if you caught the allusion, but DakotaT's reference to "Dr. Death" was an oblique reference to me.[ass]

I'd rather see a player step down a year too soon, which is why I thought Brett Favre retired at the right time in '08. At the time, selfishly I was angry that Barry Sanders retired a year too soon because I wanted him to have the rushing title. Later I realized it was time. It pained me to see Brett falter so much, although wearing purple and faltering put a smile on my face. I'd have preferred Brett retired (err stayed retired) a year too soon, rather than try to get a full tank of gas from fumes.

After the Packers repeat, I feel strongly that Chad Clifton and Donald Driver will both retire. If not, they should be replaced.

Hmmm..I posted in the bold predictions thread 2 weeks ago that Donald(DD) would catch 7 passes for 85 yds, 6 for 1st downs. He would also "drop" 1 pass and that would be the only play talked about until his next drop.

Well he was only targeted 4 times that week and caught 3 passes. No drops, this past week (DD) was only targeted twice had one catch.

The incompletion was a bullet from Aaron that DD had to go as high in the air as he could just to get his fingers on the ball while going over the middle, exposing himself to a potential big hit(check the film, that's what I do). That was not a so-called "dropped" pass. It was an incompletion.

But the self-pro-claimed "assholes of this forum" have as I predicted jumped all over the one pass that Driver did not catch. (even Aaron misses every once in awhile)

5 games in and the "assholes" have remained so predictable it is laughable.

There are 16 weeks to a regular season, every man on the roster is going to be needed and will contribute at some point.

There are 5 exceptional receivers(Cobb has been a huge surprise), 1 exceptional TE, and 4 other Te's who are pretty damn good.

The guy that has shown all of them how to be a TEAM PLAYER and more importantly how to be professional is Donald Driver.

Here's a hint for all you "ass-holes" out there.

Team Chemistry and Verteran leadership is much more important than developing a #6 receiver, they are a dime a dozen.

Check his stats. How many CBs have 3 picks and a pick 6 already? How many CBs can tackle like Sir Charles. Yes, he wasn't as good this year as last year, but he is a hell of a lot healthier than Cliffy.

Sir Charles shouldn't even be in this conversation yet.

You guys (Dakota, Get_Louder, Nerd, NSD, etc.) are nuts. You guys seem like that one movie with Farrah Fawcett in the 70s where people all got killed when they turn 30. [duh]

I better hide my true age. ๐Ÿคซ

And Brett Favre's best year was 2009. Had he stayed retired in '08, that would have been silly. Besides, it felt so much better sweeping the Vikings in '10 than it would have had we not been avenging '09.
My man Donald Driver
