I'd hate to be a multitalented receiver in GB's current offense. You just aren't going to get the action your talent deserves. Man they are deep. Pick your poison D-coordinators.

How does a team not get arrogant?

It's not that Green Bay is above arrogance rearing it's ugly head, but they are definitely built to withstand it being a big problem. That's pretty rare for an NFL team.

Think about how toxic the Vikings' locker room has been at times. A great example is how Harvin turned on Childress, whom heavily lobbied to draft him and did some good PR work in trying to underplay Harvin's character concerns.

That is a great point, but let me ask for the sake of discussion (particularly since I don't want to go to sleep just yet): what exactly is Jones' skill set?

Put differently, what exactly does James Jones give us that no other receiver does? Size? Finley gives us size. Ability to make tough catches? Again, Finley. Maybe behind the shoulder catches? Jennings has shown he can do that, too.

I like Jones. A lot. But does he bring a particular skill that is not matched by another receiver? Not to say this means we should trade him or anything, but I do wonder what particular favorable match-up Jones would provide that another one of our receivers also could not capitalize on.

I was surprised how little Jones was involved in the offense. I thought he must be out with an injury before he finally made that catch in the fourth quarter. This continues a trend of him not getting the ball much in the preseason, but we'll see how it plays out. I think he'll see the ball a lot more next week.

Jones' stat line for last night: 1 catch for 1 yard. Count me as taking a sadistic sort of pleasure in this. The perfunctory dump-off pass with which Rodgers favored Jones filled me with dark delight. I didn't want Jones back this year and it wouldn't bother me in the least if he is relegated to virtual irrelevance this season.

As for Randall Cobb . . . how many rookie wide receivers have caught a touchdown and returned a kickoff for a touchdown in their first game? He was incredible last night.

You are entitled to your opinion of Jones, but methinks you may be disappointed when he contributes this year -- and he will. Then again, I'm sure you won't be too mad at a Packers player making plays.

Why would I be disappointed if he contributes? I said I wouldn't be disappointed if he is relegated to irrelevance -- because that means someone else has stepped up and shone. I root for the Packers as a team first and foremost, not the players who are on the roster at any given time.

Jennings is silky smooth and highly agile.. Driver is smooth and not afraid to stick his nose in the fray, Jones is stocky and plays wide and as noted just finds a way to slip past defenders deep.. and Jordy is kind of a combination of them all. Cobb.. he reminds me of a jitterbug... unpredictable movements..

As Greg noted.. IMO, they will all be utilized for their strengths.. the Saints came out blitzing as normal.. the Packers decided to beat it with timing and precision.. that kind of took Jones out of the game in most sets.. especially since the Packers were putting the TE's out wide on a ton of packages last night to force the safeties wide and attacking what I think is the weakest part of the Saints defense.. backers and safety coverage.

RT @PFF_MikeClay: James Jones (20 snaps) actually played significantly more than Randall Cobb (7) #Packers DJ Williams even played 9 snaps.

now I wonder how many snaps did jordy nelson play?

EDIT: just found it. jordy played 27 snaps.

I think a lingering knee issue might have played a part in the quiet night from Jones.

There are so many variables that reacting to Jones and his relevance to this team overall on one game is shortsighted. Foundations are rarely build upon a single pebble.

Mucky Tundra (4h) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (5h) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (5h) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (5h) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (5h) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔

Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder

beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I would imagine Dallas will resolve this issue with a truckload of money
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : Micah pulling a Myles with trade request
