Yes, this is a passing team. Ergo, they'll keep some RBs who are good receivers...

Therefore, the running game isn't the focus during these games, which may indicate one of the reasons why not only Grant, but Starks and Green have not received many preseason carries.

It is much easier for a RB to get his timing down than it is a QB and WRs. They have a quicker adjustment to getting ready for week one than Aaron Rodgers and James Jones do, for example. Those two need the reps. The running game not as much. In my assessment, it is as simple as that, which is why the three RBs have received only a handful of reps in the preseason.

Silverstein usually writes decent stuff. I don't know if I've ever read such a dumb article from him. Grant looks fine. I watched the preseason game a second time and the so-called bad decision on the draw play was not that at all. It was either a great defensive play or a poor block my Wells--take your pick. Grant had no room to run had he cut in the other direction.

I praised Nance's performance after the game, but that was the first time I've ever seen Nance look like anything more than a scrub. So I'm a long way from convinced that he has a future in Green Bay. Grant's higher salary does provide a possible reason for cutting him, but as others have pointed out, they could've saved more money by cutting him earlier. I think this article is much ado about nothing.

This is a ridiculous article and like the others have stated, a year too early. I couldn't believe the title when I saw it. How did we go from Grant being the plausible starter to discussing cutting him? Especially without behavioral issues?! Ridiculous.

The real question is how good is Alex Green? I think between Green and Starks, we have no RB problems. Nance is jus the recipient of the cap clearing roster spot. And then there is always Kuuuuuuhn for the short yardage.

The $3.5M saved on Grant goes a long way to signing Finley and Sitton which is much more important the the nostalgia of Grant's back to back 1200 yard seasons.

There's a forest beyond those trees!

Grant Reportedly Has Base Salary Lowered

According to Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com, the Green Bay Packers have restructured the contract of running back Ryan Grant, cutting his base salary from $3.5 million to $2.5 million.

"Grant, who is on the final year of his contract, had a $1 million roster bonus due on the 15th day of the new league year on his previous deal plus $750,000 in total per game roster bonuses ($46,875/game)," writes Caplan. "Grant has the same exact amount ($1.75 million) in bonuses due in the new contract, but it’s not known if the bonus structure is the same or if the roster bonus has been paid or if the date has been pushed back."

With the suggestion that Grant could be cut in favor of keeping fellow running back Dimitri Nance by Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, I defer to Sigmund Bloom of FootballGuys.com in trying to apply meaning to the news.

Bloom asked, in essence, "Does that make it more or less likely that Grant would get cut?"

I just don't see anyone healthy on the roster being able to produce the Packers offense with a 1,000+ yard season other than Grant.

Grant is a consistent 1200 yards rusher. I don't see anyone else getting 800 yards.

I use to call him TNS Grant - tiny nut syndrome - cause he could never break a tackle and always went down like a $2 hooker. Can't argue with 1,200 yards though; but we're now 2 years removed from that.

I agree, between Green and Starks, they can get it done. They can also receive out of the backfield, which is gonna make this offense unstoppable. You can say Starks is "injury prone," but if there was a real game last week, it is my understanding that he would have played. They're just holding these guys out to err on the side of caution. It's like that time that Aroge tweaked his hammy and all the Favre nuthuggers were trying to talk shit. How'd that work out?
Anyway, Grant is somewhat on the bubble imo. But then again, so is DD. Do we have guys who are younger, healthier and can get it done for less? Quarless is a lock though. Young, cheap and way too much upside.
