I thought Marshall Newhouse was pretty good Saturday night as a backup tackle. He might be a little better right now than Sherrod. Newhouse gets in trouble when his weight is in front of his toes, he needs to get his weight under him a little more and get his head on a swivel at times.

I'm not sure what he saw because Newhouse was awful in my opinion. He lacked aggression and was slow out of his stance. I'm not sure he finished plays as he did in college. Make no mistake about it; Sherrod is ahead of Newhouse even if he is a raw player. However, it's clear T.J. Lang is ahead of Sherrod at LG and has a golden opportunity to win the job tomorrow night.

No coaching in offseason.
No playbook until end of July.
No OTAs or mini-camps.
No 2-a-days.
What, 10 practices, total?

For a rookie in his first preseason game, I'm not sure what anyone was expecting. We should count ourselves lucky to get anything at all out of any of our rookies this year.

Many of you have already forgotten Mike McCarthy's press conference from the first couple days of camp.

The Packers are changing completely Sherrod's blocking technique that he learned in college.
That takes more than a couple of weeks.

The coaches will get him ready.

I'm still holding any and all OL criticism at least until after the NO game.

And since Colledge/Spitz are (finally) gone, and the Sitton/Bulaga picks have shown far more than those two and their "potential" ever did, I'm willing to give Sherrod the benefit of the doubt for this year. IMO doesn't have to do much more than listen and learn.

I'm a bit more concerned re: Lang, since this is, what, his third year now, but, as I said, I'm holding off on my usual OL negativity for at least a few more weeks.

I don't want an O-line like that one.

That is the quickest way to assist an offensive line's performance.. from the defenses perspective that read might only be a split second.. but that split second allows and offensive line to set and ready to take on the defender.. swaying a bit of the advantage their way.

We want Rodgers healthy not for just this season.. but for many seasons to come.. outside of developing and draft a blue chip line, one can help achieve this through play calling. That and hiring an offensive line staff that has a history of developing talent, designing protection schemes, coordinating blitz reads and communicating assignments... Since we lack the later, I suggest we utilize the former.

After tonight I think the Packers should drop the idea of moving Sherrod inside and allow him to stay outside and work on his tackle footwork. IMO.. it is messing with his footwork moving back and forth inside.. he needed pass protection work in the first place.. let him settle in outside and get it down.

I agree with the thread title.. Sherrod needs some development yet at this point.. would be good for him to study awhile.

Lang played a better game inside and IMO.. needs all the reps inside to get ready to go for the season.

Now your last comment - our OL coach needs to go. I'm sometimes thinking he's got blackmail photos of our execs. There seems to be no logical reason we're keeping him. NSD said this in another post - if everyone here can see this, how come the executive staff can't?

Aaron Rodgers is the hands down best QB in the NFL and QB is the most important position in the NFL. Keeping him around and HEALTHY for the next 10 years NEEDS to be the #1 priority for the Green Bay Packers.

dfosterf (18-Aug) : We do have good depth at running back imo. Still so frustrating. Bitching about it is a futile excercise, which I plan to do anyway.

dfosterf (13-Aug) : a lower back injury
dfosterf (13-Aug) : Doubs says he's "fine" after injury scare. Some reported it as z
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : With LVN that is; need to see what happens in the next practice
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : beast, reading about what happened, it sounded like one of those "two guys collide and are moving slow afterwards" type of deals
beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget

Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : With buckeye and the reasonable couple, we're currently sitting at 10
buckeyepackfan (10-Aug) : Just posted to re-up on our FFL.
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : If healthy after, then thats all I care. Well, no drops would be nice

Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Woo-hoo
TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
