I'm seriously anxious to hear the details of this contract. You've got to assume that Jones didn't get near the attention in free agency as he was expecting. I would guess that it's a decent (or perhaps, better than decent) contract but probably not anywhere near what he was expecting to get from some other team.

You'd think it would be "good for the locker room" that the Packers held on to someone that was apparently so important to Driver and Rodgers, too.

I love this signing. Things might be a little crowded this year, but I'm not expecting much from Driver at all this season. I know many here are, and that's fine perhaps you are right, but I'm just not expecting much. I don't think Driver will be back with the team next season and if for some reason we lost Nelson we're looking thing again, pending future draft picks.

The combination of Jennings, Jones, Nelson, Finley, Driver/Cobb will drive defensive coordinators mad all season. And no, the Eagles will not beat us when Rodgers is playing like he did throughout the playoffs.

I am surprised there wasn’t a bigger market for him. I much rather sign James Jones for a mild deal than break the bank for Sidney Rice. Good for the Packers, though. They know have seven talented pass catchers. D.J. Williams being seventh after the obvious six.

They got Roy Williams, who has played in Martz's offense before, but I don't think he is better than Jones and plus the fact that he is older. Jones is more talented than Michael Jenkins as well, so I don't know what the Vikings are thinking either. Anyways, I'm glad we have Jones back and he isn't on another NFC contending team.

Randall Cobb was drafted to replace James Jones? Interesting, I didn't know James Jones did any kick/punt returns and could play wildcat as an extra wrinkle. It begs the question, why would you draft a guy to replace a 27 yr old rather than to replace the 36 yr old? I'm failing to understand that logic, seems foolish tactical move if true.

Especially since James Jones is on the upside and Donald Driver is on the downside. One would think Randall Cobb would have been drafted more to replace Donald Driver than James Jones. Then again, I haven't seen Driver returning kicks/punts either. 🤷

Greg Jennings
James Jones
Jordy Nelson
Donald Driver
Randall Cobb
Brett Swain

then throw in
Jermichael Finley
Andrew Quarless

I like the Packers WR and TE oh and Ryan Grand and James Starks running the ball and that guy who throws it... what's his name??

This was a good move by the Packers and I think it's comical any fan of the Packers would disagree. More weapons for the passing game = good thing.

Remember, good defense and good passing game is what wins championships.

I like the first part of this article, lol.

James Jones stays with the Packers

Now that Aaron Rodgers has as many Super Bowl rings as Brett Favre, Rodgers has no qualms about suggesting personnel moves. The different between Rodgers and Favre? The front office actually seems to be listening to Rodgers.

Days after Rodgers made a public plea for the Packers to keep receiver James Jones, Jones has agreed to terms on a three-year deal, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“James is extremely talented and he’s a guy that I think we have to bring back without a doubt,” Rodgers told ESPN Milwaukee. “He should be priority No. 1. And I mean that with all my heart. He really should be priority No. 1. We don’t win the Super Bowl without him. And we need him.”

They got him.

Per Tom Silverstein of the Journal-Sentinel, Rodgers and receiver Donald Driver lobbied the front office directly to keep Jones. A four-year veteran, Jones had a career best 679 receiving yards in 2010, third on the team behind Greg Jennings and Driver. Jones also had 11 catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns in the postseason, including five for 50 yards in Super Bowl XLV.

The move comes after Jones flirted with the Vikings, who signed former Falcons first-rounder Michael Jenkins.

I agree with GoPack1984 that Jones would've been a better fit for either the Bears or Vikings than the players they ended up with.
