A mock draft over at cnnsi.com got me thinking of this. Packers have always been my favorite team in any sport, but before the MeMeMe took over the NBA, basketball was my overall favorite sport.

Here's my 5, plus seven backups and two coaches::

C Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
F Elgin Baylor
F Connie Hawkins
G Jerry West
G Oscar Robertson.

Second team:
C Bill Russell
F Dennis Rodman
F Elvin Hayes
G Bob Cousy
G Magic Johnson

Extra defensive player: Nate Thurmond
Extra offensive player: Pete Maravich.

Head Coach: Phil Jackson
Assistant Coach: Red Auerbach

And, no, I didn't forget Jordan. IMO, he'd likely fill out the third team, though it would be close between him, George Gervin, and Earl Monroe.

lol@excluding Michael Jordan to be different. That's funny. Or ya just don't like the fella.

They aren't the all-time best at their position, just my favorites that I've seen play.

C - Shaquille O'Neal
G - Michael Jordan
G - Allen Iverson
F - Dennis Rodman
F - Karl Malone

Unquestionably he has the numbers that suggest he's #1. But Emmitt Smith had better numbers than either Walter Payton or Jim Brown and both were better. And Jim Taylor had lots of championships, but he was a tier below Payton, Brown, and your guy, Barry Sanders.

And my five would wipe the floor with yours. Nanner nanner. šŸ˜

You should try watching Michael Jordan play basketball sometime. If you liked basketball, and know anything about the sport, you'd know your error. :)

I could see Walter Payton and Jim Brown being better running backs than Barry Sanders. The only thing about Barry that I've said he was the best was pure runner. Barry couldn't pick up blitz too well, nor catch out of the backfield too well. But no question, when he had the ball in his hands he didn't fumble and there was always that chance he could take it 60 on you.

This just in, my five shut your five out. Gotta understand the game has changed and your old timers couldn't hang in today's game. Muwhahaa.

But he wasn't in the Big O's league -- Robertson once averaged a triple-double over an entire season, the only person to do so. Ever. And West v. Iverson...well, you'd be surprised at just how good West was.

Speed and power are nice. Today's players could out lift, out wrestle, out dunk and out sprint the oldsters. No doubt at all on that.

But you see, the oldsters wouldn't have to play in today's shoot-travel-shoot-travel-shoot, mug-'em-and-chuck-'em game. They'd enforce their will and make today's players play real basketball for sixty minutes.

And they'd destroy them.

Today's NBA players would be shown to be as big a group of pretenders as, say, the Vikings.
