On this Reed kid why would Ted take him #32? I don't know if he's on anybody's top 64 although I could be wrong there.

Mel Kiper and an NFL.com writer (forget his name, the guy who's doing the 'Hot 100' prospect lists) think Reed is among the top 32 players in the draft.

As for Pouncey, I have a hard time seeing the Steelers pass on him with the 31st pick if he's good enough to be a 1st round pick that is...

I really don't think the Steelers will draft him. Think of what will happen if one of them busts. He gets cut, and the other guy's extremely upset. Which is why I also don't want us to draft Casey Matthews.

I think Reed is a high 2. Not much behind a 32.
Ted Thompson could like him and it won't matter who has him rated where. He could be another Mike Neal.

Yeah, I'm not sold on Reed at 32. Maybe if we traded down. Ted seems to take his gambles (compared to the Draftniks) in the later rounds. His first round picks seem to be guys that have been rated around that range (Hawk, Rodgers, Harrell, Raji, Matthews, etc). The second and third round is where he seems to find his gems (Jennings, Collins, Finley, Neal, Nelson, Jones, etc.)

I'd like to see him package our first and third or fourth to move up for a OT. Knowing Ted, he'll only trade up if he REALLY likes the players (Matthews, Burnett, Jeremy Thompson).

Yeah, I'm sure he would only trade up if a guy falls way below where Ted has him rated. Otherwise he'll just "trust the board", wait on his pick, and take the highest guy. He seemed almost depressed last year losing a 4th to get Burnett lol.

I believe he saw action against Detroit and they ate him up. I recall reading Bob McGinn say as much. He is one of the few opinions that I value quite a bit.

Your No. 6 OL is not a lock, especially when you have a developmental program as the Packers have. There is already talk that Nick McDonald surpassed him at LG. That leaves Lang to battle it out at OT, which I dont think he can do.

I'm not saying he isn't going to get better though. I think he can, but I think people are still judging him on his rookie season, when he was a worthy fill-in lineman.

My point is that he was not that player last year.

Name a Packers OL that the didn't get ate up against the Lions the 2nd game and you'll name one that didn't play... Clifton, Spitz, Lang, Wells, Sitton, Bulaga all got their butts kicked that game... My #6 OL is a lock because I said this last year he was...

The McDonald passing Lang talk is all based on one writers article that twisted Mike McCarthy words... and I think it was the same writer who said Jones and Jackson didn't get tenders only for them later to say they did...

But Mike McCarthy said he was disappointed Lang didn't improve as much as he hoped. And he said McDonald has potential (same things he said about Moll, Barbre, Breno and others....) I've been saying for a while now I really like McDonald and he he's the type you look for when talking about potential coaching IOL guys up... but he's not on Lang's level (as of yet) ... the writer took Mike McCarthy words and twisted them together saying McDonald is passing Lang, when that's not what Mike McCarthy said at all... he was asked to break now his thoughts on players... not compare them... it was taken out of context and twisted...

I would guess that Lang is more of a RT because he did pretty well there in the Cowboys game in '09. Putting him in on the left side probably was not his best place. But it was probably better than filp flopping Bulaga to the other side.

My guess would be Lang gets a full preseason at RT and Bulaga gets LG. If Cliffy goes out, Bulaga slides over and McDonald or someone gets Guard.

To keep stability on the line.

I agree about Lang vs. McDonald. Frankly, I have not seen enough of McDonald to form an opinion of him. A lot of hype around him is because the coaching staff likes him. They also loved Brandon Underwood going into last year. Sam Shields emerged. You never know

Lang is a LG in my opinion. The Pack kept McDonald this entire time because they foresee him becoming a player. Both Lang and McDonald will compete. If the Packers feel McDonald is the better LG, Lang obviously falls in the depth chart. Is Bulaga the future LT because Lang is not? That is something to ponder. If Bulagas entrenched at RT, Lang becomes his backup.

You also have to factor in that GB could use high picks on their OL. If the Pack uses a 1st and 3rd on an interior OL and LT, Lang falls to the No. 8 OL.

My overall point is that Lang regressed last year. I think he could start at LG from day one or I thought that. But I now have my reservations, which is why I'd grab Pouncey at No. 32 if he were available. I'd be tempted to grab Danny Watkins as well.

My guess is that he makes it as you say, but a lot can happen between now and training camp. Stranger things have happen.

beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.

wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
