Well, I have to say I'm bummed a bit about no-tendering Jones.

I still think those of you who hone in on the drops are going to regret his departure more than you think.

Drops and all, he's far better than Nelson, and far, far better than Swain or anyone that they might be able to draft at 32 or later.

If there's a single position where GB can take a major hit without problems, it's probably wide receiver. But don't fool yourselves. Losing Jones will be a major hit.

And I'm not convinced that even GB and King Aaron can take two major hits at WR.

First the new CBA is most likely going to make tenders on 4th and 5th year players useless as they can no long use them.

But I don't know why they would tender some and leave off Jackson and Jones ... I'm thinking the report could be wrong...

I can see leaving Bigby off with all of his injuries...
Jackson would take a 2nd round tender but tender are low... so why not?


Honestly this doesn't make sense to me... I'm thinking the reporting is wrong. But that's just a guess...

Tendering BJack would have ensured no one was going to pick him up. The low offer this year is $1.2M, so I would think any team making him an offer would have to go higher than that to get him to leave the Packers and then part with a 2nd round draft pick on top of it. I don't think he'd be worth that, so we'd have him at $1.2M, and I'm not sure I'd pay a 3rd RB that much.

I wouldn't want to rely on compensatory picks giving us a 3rd rounder for JJ. The picks are set by a formula that considers salary, playing time, post season honors with new team, etc. I would have tendered JJ the $1.2M and then either we got him back cheap or a 3rd round pick for him.

Two things they can do to decrease the drops by Jones.
1: Get him more involved. People said the same thing about Bishop before he got regular playing time. "He makes too many mistakes." Well, he looks pretty good now that he's had a chance to warm up on a regular basis.
2: Higher percentage passing.
DD had more drops than Jones, according to the stats someone posted last week. So making Jones the #2 guy would not only get him more involved, but would theoretically result in FEWER drops.
But I'll tell you one thing. If Jones leaves, Ted Thompson will draft a very suitable replacement. Hopefully one that returns punts.

I think Jones is better than Nelson, but not "far better," as you say. Their production was virtually equal this season. As earthquake said earlier in this thread, Nelson has pretty much caught up to Jones.

I'm not sure what you mean by the Packers possibly receiving "two major hits at WR." Jones and who else? And remember that Finley is coming back.

Dont get me wrong, I like Jones and would prefer to keep him. However, I dont know how realistic it is, I feel he may be overvalued in the FA market.
