We are going to have to cut some very good players. I hope Ted Thompson can package a couple of them with a couple of draft picks and move up to obtain a couple of impact rookies. That is my hope.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Players who are on the lower end of the roster are generally useless as trade bait unless you are trading for a player on the lower end of another team's roster. Those trades usually take place on the final cutdown day in September.

But I would trade Barnett and our first to move up 6 or 7 spots to jump over a team to get a player we could really use like Wiesnewski or Pouncey to play LG.

Flynn would be another option if we think we can make QB out of Graham Harrrell. Flynn is more ready to play than any of these 1st round QB's coming out this year.

Yeah, Barnett is the kind of player you might be able to get something for. Flynn also has value, but it doesn't look like Harrell is close to being ready as a backup, so I would be very surprised if Ted traded Flynn.

The thing about OLB in the 3-4 is it one of the most difficult positions to evaluate talent with so few college teams asking these guys to do what they will have to be able to do at the next level.

Somehow Thompson knew that Mathews would be great but there may not be a player in this draft he feels good enough about to chance #32.

There will be a couple guys that get caught up in the wrong place with the way the draft falls so do you pass on a JJ Watt or a Pouncy projected to go higher for a Houston who maybe iffy?

I think Thompson will have to be VERY high on a particular OLB to take the chance in the first round over a couple guys sitting there that are going to be good pro's. With a year under his belt my guess is they feel pretty good about Zombo improving this 2nd year.

This would be where I see Thompson appying BPA. I could see him possibly swoop down in the 2nd for a player he likes. I don't see how 7 rookies can make the team anyhow.

That's definitely a fair assessment. If someone like Pouncy is on the board I think Ted is far more likely to get him just because he'd be the best football player available and it's at a position of need. I hope we do try to get someone to strengthen our OLB group though, whether that be from a free agent or someone in the draft that's in the first 2 or 3 rounds. If there just isn't one in the draft though go with other positions. I'd rather go into next year with the outside linebackers we have and draft guys that are more likely to make an impact than stretch and take a risk on an outside linebacker just to get one, which I guess is the whole BPA idea.

Thompson has to be drooling the way the Packers are set up and he can take players with great potential that other teams will pass on in a given round for somebody more ready to play now.

A scenario like J. Finley. Young, raw, but a boat load of talent. By year 3 he was a monster.

I can see Thompson cherry picking a few of these guys especially since the organization likes bringing players up giving them time to learn the system.

With that it may not be a draft year where you see a lot out of the rookies in this first year. Based on the way the roster will look it's o.k. if these guys don't come on for a year or so.

I see this as a scenario Ted Thompson loves to be in. It's a perfect place to be where the team does not need rookies to make the team better but they will make the team better in time. With the way rosters change it would be great to have players ready by the time some players are lost thru FA or retirement.

He does this right and he can pace the talent to allow the team to stay on top for years. If you see several players drafted labled as "great prospect needs time to develope" don't be surprised.

I think at least one of the unheralded OLBs we currently have will step up and make a statement. Still, it would be awesome to have another guy the calibur of Clay Matthews or close to it.
I'd also like a CB, esp one who can return punts, a LG and if there is a stud RB, grab him. I think Starks is the real deal though. LOL. But we got 4 potential #1 WRs, will have 2 elite passcatching TEs, so I'd like to have more than one potential all pro HB. Yes I know, we still have Grant.

And Ted Thompson will select someone those guys don't have on their board at all, lol.

Ted Thompson has picked, who people thought he would, a couple of times. Everybody and their dog thought the Packers would pick Hawk in 2006. I don't think everybody had the Packers taking Raji at 9 in 2009, but he was one of a couple that were usually mocked for the Packers.

However, 2008 was when the Packers traded out of the first round and picked Nelson (nobody had the Packers taking that pick). That was after the 13-3 year.

There was also a significant amount of chatter prior to the draft about the Packers possibly taking Bulaga. So it's not like all of Thompson's picks have come from left field.

Raji wasn't a surprise either.
