After the Brian Brohm fiasco, I doubt he wastes another high pick on a QB. Maybe a late round guy to develop if they don't think Graham Harrell can every be a legit #2 QB.

That's not what I'm saying at all. He drafted Rodger to start. Not to back up and then trade later for a net gain. Even if Brohm panned out, it would have been really hard for Ted Thompson to trade him for a 2nd round pick. It's one thing to flip a 7th rounder for a 2nd or 3rd (think Flynn). You won't be able to do that with 2nd rounders.

Good point. I doubt very much that Ted will take a QB with a high pick, although obviously Ted will do whatever he damn well pleases. He's smarter than us.

Agreed. I'd love a big nasty guard or another solid tackle.

I am surprised at how many people used the concept of "need" in this thread. Where have you guys been for the last 6 years. Need? When has Ted Thompson drafted for need? He takes the best guy, whether or not he is on anybody else's board.

If Carimi were on the board at 32, Ted Thompson would probably take him. If Ted Thompson has him ranked highest.

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, but I wondered if it's occurred to anyone that this will be the first time the Packers have ever picked 32nd in a draft. 😃

We have all seen Ted's drafts.
I'm saying don't be surprised if Ted drafts a QB in one of the rounds.

Mostly he takes the best player available, but need always comes into the picture. I don't think it's a coincidence that when the Packers switched to a 3-4 defense Ted took a nose tackle with his first pick, then traded up to get a pass-rushing OLB later in the first round. And of course if two or more players are virtually equal in terms of quality, need is the tie-breaker.

I would agree with you, however, that fans tend to overemphasize need. The hole-plugging approach is simple and concrete, just like signing veteran free agents, which makes it popular among fans and draft gurus alike.

Crazy, I wonder if that tidbit ever occurred to Craig Newsome ?

I don't think the Packers will take a QB in the 1st or 2nd round. I'm not that hot on any of the QB's I've read about, notice I said read, not watched. I haven't seen any of them play so I know nothing of what I talk about.

I'd like to see in the first three rounds we get an OL, OLB, and probably another OL.

In 4th or 5th round, maybe try to get a guy who's really shifty and fast for returns. Field position is very important and I'd be okay with throwing a pick for a return specialist.

He'll take BPA.

However, that will be no fun to say "BPA" and the thread just ends.

Thus, we are discussing needs.
