Hmmm... 3 turnovers to none and we barely won the game, and we once again were sitting on the sidelines awaiting our fate with our defense winning it for us.

It is impossible to have a realistic conversation in this regard, because you won't look passed your bias, but hold onto your belief that all you need to do is pass.

Look at the middle of this game vs the early part where we were in complete control and tell me the difference. But like so many other times in this discussion.. you gloss over it and ignore it.

And we will see more games like Detroit where we are stoned and have nothing to turn to.

Our defense extended our run more than any other single aspect to the post season. And it is a good damn thing our protection held up against the Steelers strength for the most part.. although Rodgers got hit over and over and over again.

Want to build a dynasty, you keep him healthy.

^This.^ Every word of it.

We don't have to have a killer running game, but we absolutely must have a credible one to keep defenses honest and carry some slack on days when the pass isn't working.

Pass, pass, pass is great in September/October/a dome. We hope this team gets back to the Super Bowl many times this decade. Do we really want to go into the Meadowlands in 2014 relying solely on the pass?

Don't try to downplay it like we "held on" for the win. We won it despite the loss of 3 key players, and we deserve every bit of the Lombardi Trophy even more because of that.

We had 2 big drives to end the game without a run game. We probably could have run the ball for a few chunks with starks but the Steelers weakness is spreading out and throwing it offenses and we showed that again. If not for a few drops this game would have been a huge blow out.

We made plays on D as well as you can't take that away.

The difference was made firstly at the end of the half, when Driver, Shields, and Woodson went down. That was an enormous emotional blow. Not to mention that Bush and Lee didn't look like they knew what they were doing, and at one point we had Bishop in man to man coverage on a wideout. The second half was the same thing.

Our biggest weakness by far was that Woodson, Driver, and (for a lot of the second half) Shields were out. The fact that these injuries took place and we still won is incredible. It is not a bias, it is incredible.

ya sure those 3 turnovers count for alot and one of the reasons we won. But IMO if driver did not get hurt then our passing attack would of been more effective. Driver is one of our clutch guys ...

and ya it was said shields only did 1 play in the second 1/2

I do think rodgers threw darts the whole game which made the ball a bit hard to catch (but the good thing is - it wasnt easy for defenders to catch it either.)

Also glad we didnt try to run it against them; our strengths vs their weaknesses.

I rewatched the game and most of the plays I saw didnt use 5 wideouts; most used 4 receivers and 1 blitz pickup guy ... or we often had 3 receivers and a back and a TE.

I liked those set ups - give rodgers some options yet afforded rodgers some coverage also. Rewatch the game see how many times we had a back blocking or a TE ready to block or go out.

talking about pure passing plays -

We held on to the win? Pleeeease....

That game should have been a blow out. Next time JONES and JORDY, when you have a Touchdown pass thrown at you, you catch it.

Losing Woody and Driver then having Shields out for a large portion of the game + the drops were the ONLY reasons this game was close.

I'm so glad MM gets it.

Don't worry, folks, we'll have a running game when Grant gets back. But what some people want on this board, we might as well wish for unicorns to be real too.

What balance is that hard to obtain.. really.

Running the ball only makes the job easier on an offense.. not run oriented, just tote it enough to make it easier on the offensive line, the receivers and our QB.

I haven't seen a single person demand a run oriented attack...

I will simply repost from an earlier thread on this same topic. We won the Super Bowl, and we're the NFL Champs.

The only thing I will say in this thread and will wait for a bit to expand on the overall thoughts on it.

We won and I don't want to come off as negative on this.

However if you look at the first two drives with runs sprinkled in and effective running I might add, we scored TD's. Then we went into a pass only mode and it wasn't until late that we scored 10 more points, but take note of the number of hits Aaron took over that time verse the hits during the early drives.

I knew we could expose the secondary of the Steelers, and if we didn't drop the ball as many times as we did it probably wasn't even close as a game as it was.

So hats off to the pass happy approach.

However I will continue to reside in the we would have even been more dominant in this game if we wouldn't have abandoned the run over the last 2 and a half quarters with the turnovers we generated and the razor sharp passing of Rodgers.

Many ways to skin a cat.

I agree, PackZ--I'm not going to go negative on the play calling. McCarthy called a good enough game to win it, and that's all that matters.

I did share your observations on when during the game the offense was moving well and when we were running the ball.

This game was a poster-child for the pass-is-all-you-need crowd, but in my opinion, that poster child is one ugly baby--we needed three turnovers (leading to a combined 21 pts, 7 of them due solely to the defense on a pick 6) to win by 6 points.

That pass-happy attack would not have been enough to win by itself without the turnovers. The Steelers offense outgained Green Bay's--despite passing for fewer yards--because they did not abandon the running game.

In any event, we won, we're the Super Bowl Champs, and McCarthy did a terrific job preparing the team for the game. They came out hungry, and they came out sharp. Dom Capers deserves kudos, holding the Steelers to 3 points (and helping the Pack to a 21-3 point lead) until Woodson and Shields went out at the end of the 1st half.
