Peppers should have been ejected, but at the bare minimum he should be given a stiff fine.

The problem with ejections as a punishment for such infractions is that they don't impact the player individually all that much. I believe that, at least for repeat offenders, ejection should be accompanied by automatic forfeiture of the game check. I think ejection would bring peer pressure to bear upon the player, while forfeiture of pay would affect the player where it hurts, and would affect highly paid players proportionately as harshly as lower-paid players.

I had thought that perhaps an equitable model would be to impose a prorated forfeiture of pay; e.g., a personal foul in the fourth quarter lead to forfeiture of 25% of the game check, while an infraction in the first quarter would lead to forfeiture of the entire game check. However, that might lead to a plethora of devastating hits in the waning moments of games. The best strategy seems to be forfeiture of the game check, since an ejection is effectively a suspension anyway. Any multi-game suspensions for repeat offenders should be without pay.

I think players should be ejected too. This brings up a whole new problem. I can see where a team would have one or two "headhunters" on their team. More or less like special team players they would only make the team if they can get to a qb and inflict a violent blow to the head.
Not only should they be ejected for the game they are playing in, they should get an automatic suspension without an appeal for 2 more games. A second cheap hit brings a 4 game suspension a third hit 16 games and a fourth hit banned for life.
The reason I am being so harsh is I have been thinking about Harrison's attitude. He had at least 4 hits for which he was fined this year and at least one more for which he was not fined. 3 of the 4 where on qbs. He just doesn't care. On one of the talk shows on the NFL he was saying that he feels it is better to go for a guys head than his legs. pffff. What he fails to acknowledge is he doesn't have to go for either. There is this whole middle section of a player that he can hit and try to make a tackle.

I don't think he was concussed.. but I hold a strong belief that he was truly hurt worse than being let known on the first TD dive.. from his body language upon getting up and for the remainder of the game to me he hurt is none throwing shoulder and would not be surprised a bit if it comes out after the SB that there is structural issues in that shoulder.

From watching the game the week before and how hard the surface along the sidelines were verse the field.. and the angle he hit.. I think something happened on that play.

Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers was fined $10,000 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Sunday's NFC Championship Game, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

On Wednesday, Rodgers shot down speculation that he sustained another concussion on the Peppers hit and credited his helmet for potentially preventing another significant head injury.

Rodgers switched helmets after sustaining two concussions earlier this season, although he has been hesitant to share details about how the new helmet might be safer.

"Not too much to talk about," Rodgers said. "I didn't have a concussion. I want to dispel that rumor. No concussion. I was fine. Yeah. Helmets are designed to prevent concussions, I think."

Thank God it is in his non-throwing shoulder. He may have acted differently throughout the game, as far as fear and avoidance, but his throwing mechanics predictably are physically unaffected. I would imagine that the LBs for Pitt have the ability to disrupt Rodgers psychologically if he is afraid that his shoulder will be re- (or further) injured. He needs to rely on his feet and his OL to take care of business, and if he can do that, then his possible shoulder injury doesn't matter.

He was only fined $10,000? Was that his first offense this season or something?
