Look, I wish we had a better running back than Brandon Jackson. He is average at best. He is a backup, after all. But let's take a look at some statistics from the game. These are overall statistics--no distinction here between the run and the pass:

First Downs GB 22 ATL 19
Third Down Efficiency GB 4-11 ATL 4-12
Fourth Down Efficiency GB 2-3 ATL 2-2
Total Plays GB 59 ATL 57
Total Yards GB 418 ATL 294
Time of Possession GB 28:20 ATL 31:40

Those numbers are very close, except total yards, which significantly favored the Packers. And fittingly, the score was tied with under a minute left.

I don't buy that the Falcons' 20 yard drive to win the game was set up by their running game. If that is the case, how do you explain the Packers' 90 yard drive to tie the score? They managed to do that in spite of the fact that their running game had not been effective all day. If the Falcons managed a 20 yard drive because they wore out the Packers' defense with their running game, then the Packers must have REALLY worn out the Falcons' defense with their passing game.

Does it help Ryan that he has a running game?

Yes it does, but he has proven he can win games without a running game too. The Ravens shut down Turner and he still dominated and won the game. He isn't a lesser QB because he has a running game.

Fact is no one thing is ever the difference in a football game. For every big Turner run, I can point to a missed opportunity by the Packers' passing game or coaching staff.

This was a well played game by two very good football teams. If there is a rematch, I still think Green Bay can win. I have much more confidence in Green Bay's defense than Atlanta's and I believe defense and QB play is the new standard to identify a Super Bowl caliber team.

Are Packer fans still that insecure about Aaron Rodgers that they are unable to tip their hat to the other team's QB? I thought the torch was passed and fans have moved on. Apparently, I was mistaken....

I'll repeat myself since the first time I spelled it out it was missed.

Matt Ryan played an excellent game, 24 of 28 is very good, even if only averaging a little more than 8 yards a completion.
Matt Ryan's final drive was NOT special.

Is that so hard to understand that is my opinion? Or do need to bring up Baltimore or Aaron Rodgers or insecurity some more?

Had the refs not missed the dropped first down. Had the refs not missed the slide for a first. That would have been more than enough for a win.

Not that I am blaming the loss on that. The Falcons are too good and earned that win for it to be excused. It is just that we are good enough and played good enough to win that game. Just as we are.

Even the Gonzalez drop...the Packers still had opportunities to stop the Falcons and the Arod fumble certainly hurt as well. I'm reluctant to say that either dictated the outcome...affected, yes, but with 30 + minutes to go in the game and a 7 pt. defecit, it's hard to convince me that it prevented the team from winning.

I see alot of people saying we don't need a running game but tell me this, what are you going to do when you have a snowy cold game in Green Bay. If your playing a top team I would put my money on the opponent if they have a running game.

The lack of running game hurt us today, and people blaming the special teams for the loss need to look at other things. The shitty qb sneak for a 2nd straight play which was fumbled. I didn't mind the 1st one with the field spread but cmon we haven't been able to run for a yard the whole game now you put your franchise qb in harms way.

The other part was we were out coached today. The Falcons challenge their play because it could be a game changing play, Freddy had a chance to do that and he idn't do shit. In that situation you challenge if nothing else make them look at it and it gives your guys a breather.

The remarks I made seem like they are repeats every time we lose :(


Hope we make the playoffs because the Bears are looking very impressive.

Throwing the football in cold and snowy weather is not that hard to do. Especially when you have the talent to play QB in the NFL. I mean, I can throw a football in that weather. If I can, an NFL QB should be able to do so as well, especially one with the talents of Aaron Rodgers. :thumbleft:

Tahoe is a 4 hour drive from where we live. As I haven't lived in the Midwest in 30+ years, I'm not used to the snow. We played sandlot in Tahoe many times and I can tell you from experience, throwing in the snow is easy, even for a guy not used to the snow.

Now, the elevation is tough to get used to. We all got winded sooner than usual. And you're completely right about the wind. Throwing in wind, forget it.

Back to the topic, every time we lose a game, are we going to panic about RBs? My word.

As I didn't see the game, the play-by-play still shows that execution killed us. We had 3rd and 1 from the Atlanta 4 and Nance got a 0 yard run. Had we passed and completed it, we most likely had a TD drive instead of a FG drive (or maybe even got it in the end zone on that play). That's 4 points left on the board right there.

We missed a completion from the Atlanta 2 yard line. It was followed 2 plays later by a fumble and 0 points. That's 7 points left on the board there.

Later on in the game, we had 3rd and 1 from the Atlanta 41 yard line. We threw 2 straight incompletions and turned the ball over. Hypothetically, that's 3 points left on the board there had we completed one of those passes. We should have been able to get 8 yards in the next 3 plays and Crosby's got a good leg (as much as Packer fans dislike the guy, check his stats).

So that's a total of 14 points we left on the board. For argument's sake, let's say Finley never got injured. He's bigger and stronger than a CB or a S and faster than a LB. In 1 yard situations, forget it. If Bubba Franks can consistently get 1 yard completions...

It's all execution. We had the opportunities to win this game by double digits. We didn't execute.

There's certain things about could weather you have to get used to. Like you sort of let your hands get cold, then warm up, and you're good. You don't want them to get numb, but you want to acclimate. Thicken your blood. Feet are the same as the hands. You could probably use foot warmers though. Moving around is key.
You also sort of learn to keep snow out of your sleeves and stuff like that. You know how to navigate on ice. These guys aren't playing in the street, but there are spots on the field that will be more slippery than other spots.

Has anyone ever thought that it's not our RBs it's our run blocking?
IMO our run blocking is one of the worst in the league top 20 at least.
Jackson is considerably a solid back,were not gonna get another good rb off the market in some time so I think we should get it out of our heads.
As sad as it is to say our pass blocking is better than our run blocking..
Jackson is the best pass blocking RB on our team he makes plays,he can break tackles even today I seen him get back to the line when our running play is blown up.

A lot of times this last game against the falcons I saw our line get beat easy their DT's got to the backfield fast and blown up plays.

To think about it now I think we need to draft a high round Guard colledge is our worst Olineman imo on our team I don't like him that much.

So think about how it could be ultimately our Run Blocking thats bad and can't run the ball.

Still, Grant runs behind the same OL. He performs well and was #8 fantasy RB last year (stats matter for RBs). Jackson doesn't. The drop off from Grant to Jackson is as significant as I thought it would be when we did the list of the 10 players we could least afford to lose (Grant was on my list).

For the record though Finley, I do believe we have as good as a shot as anyone to win it all. I like this team. We shutout the Jets in NY. We'll probably face them or the Pats in the SB if we can get by Atlanta in the Playoffs.
