So Pack93z, I bascially said everything of note from those posts in my earlier comment in this thread.

Man, I'm good.

Well done, and classy, as always !

I will not deduct for the classy part, because unfortunately, that is how you roll (totally kidding on that last part)

Hello. I'm a Falcons fan, so I can give you a pretty decent view from your opponent. :thumbleft:

On the topic of our defense, and specifically how we rank against the run and the pass, I think the numbers are very misleading.

Against the run, the Falcons are 21st in yards per attempt, but they're sixth overall in rushing yards.

Against the pass, the Falcons are 24th in the NFL in total yards.

The reason for this is that the Falcons, who's offense is sixth in scoring, jump out to early leads very often. By doing this, they force teams to abandon the run in order to play catch up. So teams are racking up the pass yards as they attempt to catch up after we take the lead.

Another important stat is that the only two teams have allowed fewer plays of 20+ yards than the Falcons. This is all a product of their gameplan.

The Falcons are all about clock management, and dominating time of possession. The Falcons are tied with the Packers and a few other teams for second place with 15 interceptions. They are fourth in the NFL in turnover ratio and second in the league in time of possession.

Remember that we are sixth in the league in scoring, and yet we're 25th in passing plays that total more than 20 yards. Our drives are long and methodical. What this all adds up to is a team that jumps out to an early lead and plays very conservative defense, giving a lot of cushion off the line of scrimmage, and preventing big plays from happening. We take the ball away quite a bit, and we don't give it back.

Once we have a lead, our defense forces opponents to dink and dunk their way down the field (remember our defense is third in plays resulting in more than 20 yards). So while teams abandon the run and rack up the pass yards with drives that might result in a touchdown, we're still forcing you to take up a good bit of time off the clock before you get those points. Then you have to kick it off to our offense who doesn't turn it over and likes to hold on to the ball for a very long time.

Even with that, our defense is seventh in scoring defense (I am aware that the Packers are second), so it's not like scoring points comes easy because of how conservative we play. We're actually pretty talented on that side of the ball, though we are young in many positions.

So my point is that the Falcons really do dictate a lot of what their opponents do throughout the game. Even if our pass defense looks terrible on paper, we're usually in complete control of the game. Against the Ravens a couple of weeks ago it almost came back to bight us, but luckily Matt Ryan is very adept at running a two-minute offense and getting those last minute-game winning drives.

The Packers are the without a doubt best team the Falcons have played all year in my opinion. I expect us to start the game with the no-huddle offense, much like the we did against Baltimore. I think that if it's a shoot out, the Packers can definitely win. But if the Packers don't score early and often, I like the Falcons' chances. That said, I'm not supremely confident that the Packers won't do what it takes to pull this one out. Sorry for the uber-long post. I really like your board.

I agree with a lot of what the Atlanta fans are saying. I think it will come down to pressure on the quarterbacks and protecting the football. Just like they are worried about our receivers if we have time, Roddy White is arguably the best in the league and even with our secondary we can't give him time to run around the field.

The only thing I disagree with is the two of them that assert that our wins don't compare to theirs. One of them talks about barely winning against Detroit (who has been close in virtually every game) whereas they ignore the fact they barely beat San Francisco. They downplay our win against the Jets because we only scored 9 points but we won at New York and by more than they beat Baltimore by (and they beat them on a blatant offensive pass interference, not like they crapped on them). We beat Philadelphia who they lost to. They downplay us beating Buffalo as a who hasn't done that but ignore the same thing with Arizona. They also make the Rams game seem like it was extremely difficult when they're 4-6 with a rookie quarterback and no wins against winning teams (to my knowledge, same can be said about Tampa btw).

The schedules both teams have played have been pretty similar I feel and it will be a tightly fought game.

The Packers like to dictate also, by shutting down the opponents offense, taking the ball away and scoring with it. Once they are ahead, they pound the QB and shake down the receivers.

On offense, they calmly score points. Not having to worry too much because the D keeps setting them up for easy scores.

beast (4h) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (9h) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (11h) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (21h) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (21h) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (21h) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (21h) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (21h) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (23-Dec) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
