What is our biggest need?

I would think RB, DL, OL would be our biggest need. With how many injuries we have, I don't know what order but am curious what the thinking is of other people.

OL, with Cliffy getting up there in age. I would have said RB, but I don't know how good James Starks will be.

I think if you look at it we could use almost all positions depth wise. Other than a few. Also remember Williams, Jenkins, Colledge, Spitz, Bishop, J. Jones, Jackson, Hall, Kuhn, Crosby and maybe Bigby (if he's season counts officially as an official season) if the players union gets a CBA like they would like which makes all FS with at least four official season UFA.

Looking at that listed alone we could be losing important depth at QB, TE, OLB and S.

For QB some fans have been talking about trading Flynn if the right price is offer and if that would happen next offseason would be the best time as it would be a contract year for him. And personally I like him... but I want a QB with a bit stronger arm... if they don't trade Flynn they should be alright.

At TE Finley and D.Lee contracts are up in the 2012 offseason and is D. Lee doing much? Anyways we got Quarless and Crabtree so maybe extra depth isn't needed but it wouldn't hurt ether.

People we're saying we needed an OLB before the season with only Matthews as good enough to start. We got depth there with B. Jones, Zombo, Walden, Briggs and Francois but could we use a better starter?

I think Safety is a nice mix with Collins, Burnett, Peprah, Bigby, Smith and Martin...

=================

One thing to note... seems Thompson 2nd pick often at a position where a an important players contract ran out that year and/or will run out next year.

2nd pick history

2005: Nick Collins / Sharper
2006: Daryn Colledge / Lost both starting OGs
2007: Brandon Jackson / Ahman Green
2008: Brian Brohm / Favre
2009: Clay Matthews / Kampman
2010: Mike Neal / Jenkins
2011: ?

If it's for someone this year then it's most likely Williams or the Colledge/Spitz combo... if it's for someone who'll be a FA after next year then that list is...

Flynn, Grant, Nelson, Finley, Tauscher, Sitton, Wells, Hawk, Harris both Lees Martin...

So based on that... next years 2nd pick should be a RB or OL ...

Obviously QB since we're 1 - 11 in "close" games. Or is 2 - 11? 😃

It entirely depends on how many of our free agents we manage to lock up.

Assuming we retain everyone we need I think we look remarkably good in nearly every area.

OLB is lacking a genuine star opposite Clay. Corner looks better this time than last year with Shields playing well in nickel and Williams doing his best Revis impression. Incredibly we haven't even missed Al Harris.

Running back is a slight question mark but Grant has a full year to recover from his ankle injury and Jackson will be better after a year as a starter. Starks may even be ready to contribute after his redshirt season (assuming he goes on IR).

DL could be one of our deepest positions. Raji is a stud, Pickett and Green are run stuffers and Jenkins provides pass rushing from DE. Neal looks the real deal and even Wilson has stepped it up. Jolly may be back and we also have Harrell and Wynn on the roster at least for now. That's 9 guys who have started NFL games on the DL.

At QB I hope we can trade Flynn and groom Harrell to be the backup while drafting another one late to restart the conveyor belt.

People keep talking about losing Jenkins, but IMO, he is in our top 2 FAs that we need to sign. If Jenkins is gone after this year, our DLine takes a HUGE blow. He's also one of my favorite guys on the team.

My priorities are:

#1 CB
#2 Pass Rush OLB without Matthews there is too little
#3 OT
#4 D-Line
#5 Center
#6 RB
Then OLB and D-line again

That should fill out all 9 nine picks.

wouldn't be a bad idea to start developing a hot young CB since woodson and harris won't be around after another 2 or 3 years (or so)

Well we do have Williams and Shileds as younger CBs as well as Lee and Underwood. Usually teams keep 5 CBs... with Woodson and Harris that makes 6...

I think the Packers need to focus at RB, OL, DE, OLB and if Bishop isn't back maybe ILB.

dfosterf (26-Jun) : I think it would be great to have someone like Tom Grossi or Andy Herman on the Board of Directors so he/they could inform us
dfosterf (26-Jun) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.
wpr (26-Jun) : 1st world owners/stockholders problems dfosterf.
Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : @SharpFootball WR Diontae Johnson just admitted he refused to enter a game in 41° weather last year in Baltimore because he felt “ice cold”
