Gruden has some serious man-love for A-Rod. I could see Chucky leading this team.

I am against canning him.

When we go into prevent mode, I am definitely not against caning him. McCarthy frustrates the hell out of me with his 2nd half game calling. It seems we light it up in the beginning and coast.

The problem is that under Ted Thompson the Packers will never get to the Superbowl because he won't roll the dice using free agency or trades to add the necessary piece or pieces to get the Packers over the top.

"yooperfan" wrote:

That is a dumb statement. Look at the past teams who have won. They didn't go all out or roll dice.

Who cares about getting to the Superbowl? It's about winning the Superbowl.

Thank you Trom.
Possibly some teams have won a Superbowl without having to roll the dice and adding a piece to the puzzle in the offseason but I tend to believe that would be the exception rather than the rule.
The move doesn't always have to be a high priced high profile player, it could be a tackle at the end of his career that would be able to step in should your starter go down.
Oh, and Trom, you gotta get to the Super Bowl before you can win a super bowl.

I like what ILike said. In today's free agent era, the best way to win a SB is to be a perennial playoff team. Look at the Pats for instance. They were in 4 SBs and won 3 of them by being in the playoffs almost every year of the 00s.

Fact - we were in the Playoffs 2 of the past 3 years. My opinion - unless Rodgers, CM3, or Woody get injured (knocking on wood as I type this), we'll be in the Playoffs this year.

Before we start calling for Ted Thompson's or Mike McCarthy's dismissal, who is out there who is available? Anyone? Anyone? Beuller?

"zombieslayer" wrote:

Steve Mariucci is out there and finally available after the last year of his Lions contract. He can get it done, but Ted Thompson is not in his camp. Favre was, and that is part of the reason behind the bow-up a few years ago. That said, he'll never be given any consideration while Ted is in charge.

You have made this and similar statements dozens of times since I've been a member of this site. So why don't you put your money where your mouth is, do a little research, and come up with a few paragraphs giving evidence for your stance? People on this site have provided plenty of counterexamples to your thesis, so the burden of proof is now on you.

I'll do yooper's work for him. Notable free agents siginings and trades for Super Bowl winning teams.

New Orleans Saints 2009
Jonathan Vilma via trade, gave up a 4th rounder (2008)
Jeremy Shockey via trade, gave up 2nd & 5th round picks (2008)
Bobby McCray (2008)
Jabari Greer (2009)
Darren Sharper (2009)

Pittsburgh Steelers (2008)
Believe it or not: 0 notable acquisitions in the two previous years. Straight up build through draft

New York Giants (2007)
Kawika Mitchell (2007)

That's as far as my personal notebook on NFL team's offseason's go.

The Saints were the only team of the last three champs who significantly improved their team through offseason means.

Fun fact: every member of the 2007 Giants draft class was active in their Super Bowl win, except for Adam Koets, who is still in their roster as a backup center.

dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.

dfosterf (25-Jul) : Did Savion Williams run into a goalpost or something?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jul) : also, no bueno when a guy starts getting concussions right off the bat in his career
