Your kidding me right he is not a very bad play caller it was the players dont blame the coach everytime.Mike McCarthy is not the reason we lost it was are oline and penalties.Stop blaming it on him all the time its a team game we lost because the whole team didnt play well.

I was trying to say don't blame it on MM it's the players as well, only thing I didn't like was his clock management and that challenge.

MM is not a bad coach,He is the best coach in the NFC NORTH IMO.

I didn't have much of a problem with the play calling at all. I think the one area where he's been bad at is when to call screens. We need to start getting back to three or four screens a game against a good front four. But one little gripe is not enough to pull the plug from McCarthy calling plays. Personally, he's not only the best play caller the Packers have but one of the better play callers in football right now. Clearly, the team game planned all week to threw the ball 40-50 times, which Rodgers hinted at before the game even started. You can argue the game plan, but the Packers moved the ball up and down the field.

You are correct. Rodgers spilled the beans before the game that the plan would consist overwhelmingly of passing. He said it was their only chance to win the game. He was probably right.

Let's be realistic. Had it not been for the penalties, Rodgers probably would have ended the day with 350+ passing yards, 3 TDs passing, and one rushing, and we wouldn't be here complaining about MM's playcalling.

I thought it was fine. The execution was horrible. Every other time we did something cool, it was called back by a penalty.

Every coach makes mistakes. I think we're lucky to have McCarthy for the most part. I mean do you guys even remember Ray Rhodes?

The other is the 12/12/99 loss to the Carolina Panthers at home. Carolina was down 31-27, and achieved first-and-goal at the two minute warning. Green Bay had all their timeouts, Carolina had only one remaining. Carolina ran four plays, with Steve Beuerlein scoring from five yards out on the last one for a 33-31 win as time expired. The crowd and even the players were screaming and pleading with Rhodes to use his time outs after each play, so that the Brett Favre-led offense could have a chance to fire back if Carolina scored. (And if they didn't score, Green Bay would have needed to merely kneel on the ball to run out the remaining clock.) But Rhodes defied all strategic logic and refused to use them, costing his team any chance of a comeback win--and, eventually, costing the Packers a playoff berth and costing him his job, as he was fired after one year. After that display of coaching "skills", most fans thought he shouldn't have even been allowed to finish the season.

I have no problem with Mike McCarthy's play calling, only his decision-making skills in crucial moments.

The penalties.

THAT is what MM should be held accountable for, along with Ted Thompson , the position coaches, and the players.

Are we a good team? Yes, in many, many ways. But are we a complete team?

Hell no, and I'm not even talking about our deficiencies skill-wise.

So, imo -- we are a "good" team that apparently is an undisciplined team.

The o-line penalty problems probably have a lot to do with the declining skills of our two tackles, coupled with the generalized suckage of Colledge, and the desire to not get Rodgers killed...

So many of the defensive penalties are at least in part reflective of a flawed mind-set in our coaching staff passed down to our players that simply does not work in this offensive-minded NFL.

So what weight do we put upon our lack of discipline as a team when contemplating how "good" we are, how much of it is Mike's fault, etc.?

That aspect of this team just cost us a football game, from what I saw, so perhaps having more "skill" players is really just ONE aspect of what constitutes "good".

Collins is still a friggin' moron, imo, fwiw

Playcalling would be approx. my LAST complaint about MM.

After four years of watching McCarthy Ball I would literally kill to see Holmgren run the very same offense.

Any thoughts?
