The mark of a superbowl contender is having compensatory phases when certain things do not go well.. As awry as Aaron Rodgers was yesterday, we got the blue pill with regards to kick returns.

We will not, this season, face a backup quarterback with the resume and furthermore the talent that Michael Vick has, no way, no how. If Kevin Kolb was in the game, our defence would have looked absolutely dominating as Michael Vick hurt us mostly on runs where his darn good escapability was the difference between a sack and a 10-20 yard rush.

The Eagles have a defense worth writing about - Tauscher and Clifton will not be going up against a Trent Cole every week. Quintin Mikell (Pro Bowler), Asante Samuel (Pro Bowler) are not run of the mill secondary guys. This is one of the tougher defenses we will face this season, along with Minnesota, New York (Jets) and possibly the Boys.

We STILL managed to score 27 points. And win. And experience an improvement in phases of the game that we hardly can tolerate, such as special teams play and the kicking game.

I love being spoiled, and we, as Packer fans, are at the moment.

+1. Well said. Too much griping for a win over a pretty good team in their stadium.

We won, despite Aaron having a bad day. That's awesome.

Also, I said it in the chat but needs to be said here. Vince is a stud. He called the TD pass to Gregorious right before that drive started.

I agree with you on Rodgers desdain for not playing well.

The very first line of his press conference was "I played terrible today"

No sugar coating, just a personally felt honest appraisal.

I personally think he is being too hard on himself, he played below average in my opinion, not terrible, though his sentiments can only be a good thing. He sets a very high bar for himself, which will nullify mistakes.

Not going to happen. Furthermore, he doesn't want to play in the 3-4.

As far as the offensive line. Trent Cole is no joke. He can get after it better than anyone in the NFC not named Jared Allen or Julius Peppers. The line also stabilized in the second half. Rodgers just didn't execute.

Continuing on the Glass Half Full side of things:

Overall, it seemed the fanbase had a succinct list of concerns about the matchup -

1. Would they be able to generate pressure on the QB? They were - 5 sacks, two on Vick? That's a good bit of pressure, and I'm only counting the sacks.

2. Would they be able to control the Eagles WRs? They were. Yeah, Shields got victimized. Once. Otherwise, their pass game wasn't a problem. No question the pressure in item 1 contributed to this, but the result is that the Eagles were held to under 200 yards passing.

3. Special Teams: Would they be special, or "special"? They were the former - they were solid. They covered kicks, they managed 2 great kick returns, and Crosby set a new FG record. Much improved, I'd say.

4. Would the O-line hold? It did not. Yes, the Eagles are one of the best teams at bringing pressure, but the fact is that the Packers weren't able to counter that effectively in the first half.

So, one out of four major concerns turned out to be true - that ain't bad.

The two main factors leading to the game even being close - Rodgers having a very off day and Vick running wild - weren't even on the radar. And in the end, they overcame those two things with strong performances in at least two areas that we the fans were worried about prior to the game.

The more I reflect on this win, the better it feels. Rodgers is unlikely to lay another egg like that one, and we're not going to see Vick again this year unless it's in the playoffs, and I'm sure there'll be a better plan for him if that plays out.

At this point I have one main concern: WTF is up with Tausch and Cliffy? No question Cole is a monster, but it's not like he's the best guy they're going to see this year. That makes me a bit nervous.
