I wouldn't call their D mediocre they caused the most turnovers in the NFL last year..

To make up for giving up points, they had to play aggressively. They had to risk going for INTs and forcing fumbles every chance they got. It was more desperation than solid D.
This year though, their DC thinks that they've improved greatly and their first game showed that either they had, or the Vikings don't know what they're doing yet. It may be the latter, but if it's the former, they're going to be tough to beat.
