+1 exactly what he said. We might be able to have faith in them after we face QB's like Cutler and other mediocre QB's but until they show that they can stop people like Warner, Big Ben and Favre, I won't say.

My faith in the secondary is in large degree contingent upon the play of the front seven. If the Pack can find more of a pass-rush identity in Capers' scheme (and continue to shutdown or at least mitigate opposing rushers) then it'll make things easier. This is a VERY opportunistic defense. Someone posted a stat in the shout box that was originally from the new football almanac: Nick Collins has eight -- countem EIGHT -- dropped interceptions over the last two years. When you take into account how many interceptions he actually had it gives you a snapshot of this teams opportunistic tendencies.

I'm hoping the takeaways will still be there. I'm obviously hoping the dominant run defense is there. If the Pack can generate a more consistent pass-rush, though, I expect the greatest positive yield. That's a DBs best friend.

This.

If the line and backers get a consistent rush, hurrying opposing quarterbacks into bad throws, then the secondary will be just fine.

I'm not worried about the secondary, because I think our Offense will be so good this year, we'll only need them to get a few stops per game to win most of the time, and I think they're more than up to that challenge.

come on.

alsoplustoo: i personally do NOT want to see another game like the Arizona game. i do NOT want to depend on our offense picking up our defense's slack. our pass rush must improve if our sickly secondary stands any chance at all. i really don't see how this situation could be any more complex or viewed differently than how i just stated. unless everybody was just playing "pretend" during preseason, i am not exactly excited for the moments our offense goes 3 and out and suddenly our DEF is on the field needing to accomplish the same. ugh. the thought makes me cringe right now to be honest.

please, GB DEF...prove me wrong.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

We'll have to throw out there what we have and see what sticks. Hopefully Matthews and Jones can get some rush on the outside with Raji getting decent push in the middle to collapse the pocket.

The Eagles should be a first good test. New QB who didn't play all that stellar later in the preseason with an adequate receiving corps which contains one burner. (Jackson)

I think there are about 25 teams that would change secondaries with us in a heartbeat.

I like our chances in a shootout with anybody.

As much as I agree with not wanting our offense to have to bail out our defense, I do see that happening more than not. Damn I hope I'm wrong!

dfosterf (3h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (20h) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (20h) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (20h) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (23h) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
