I like numbers. Do you like numbers too? Here are some number changes for Packer players, as reported in the GB Press Gazette:

"Three players changed their numbers once making the 53-man roster and the practice squad. Quarterback Graham Harrell will don No. 6 after wearing No. 7 in camp. Safety Charlie Peprah went from No. 46 to No. 26. Linebacker Frank Zombo is now No. 58 after sporting No. 47 during the offseason and camp."

I kind of liked it that Zombo had A.J. Hawk's old college number, but #58 will be better for him in the long run. I'm not sure why Harrell took #6. It seems like kind of a crummy number (my apologies to any #6s who may be reading this). I'm glad Peprah went back to his old number. He lost it to Josh Bell last year.

We had a pretty good argument on this in the shout yesterday.

Sorry Zero.

Anyway, I like the number change for Zombo. Not like he had any choice. 47 isn't a LBer number. Would've loved to finally add an OLBer with a number in the 90s like Thompson had, but it doesn't seem like we're giving those out to non-linemen.

Seeing that numbers in the 40s pretty much suck, anyway, I like Peprah's change to 26, as well. More of a DB number in my mind.

I wish Starks would've changed his number, as well. 44 is a FB number in my mind. And a number for people who crap in laundry baskets.

It seems like back in the 70s there may have been one or two halfbacks who had #44, but I can't remember any off the top of my head. Starks could've had 23, 27, 28, 34, or 39. Not exactly the cream of the crop, but 34, at least, would've been a lot better than 44.

Why is it that numbers in the 40s suck? Four is good for a second digit (except for 14), but the only good number in the 40s is 42. Weird.

I love talking numbers too. I'd like to know more about why they changed.

Not sure why Harrell chose 6. That is a weak ass number in my book. 7 was better. Poor judgement.

I'm glad Peprah switched, I don't like DBs in the 40s. I always though Ford looked out of place last year with that big old 40 plastered across his back. Also, it makes you stand out more when you blow a coverage, which Ford did quite a lot.

58 is a solid choice for Zombo. I think CM3's 52 is a good number. I love how the numbers are almost a mirror image of each other.

I like the DL numbers in the 90s, they just seem to fit with those big chaps. I rather like my Gbaja-Biamili jersey with its 94.

I think Raji suits 90. But I think 99 is such a cliche I would never choose that as my jersey number. And I once saw a college basketball player with the number 0. Ridiculous.

For some reason I like Harrell's 91.

Yeah, the 90s are really good. For some reason, they hardly ever used the 90s back in the old days. The DLs used to have numbers in the 60s and 70s, and even the 80s, but very few 90s. Ezra Johnson (#90) was one of the first I can remember to break that barrier. KGB's #94 was the perfect match of number and player, even though he wasn't as big as most of those guys. That number just looked good on him.

Very funny and true what you said about Ford.

Yes! And I just thought of another #44 halfback: Floyd Little of the Denver Broncos, who was just inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
