WARNING: We are are WAY too overconfident about the Vikings demise.

Someone can jump on me about being a Favre lover or whatever but I do not understand why people think the Vikings are not going to score a ton.

At the end of the day, they still have Adrian F'n Peterson. You can make fun of his fumbles or whatever, at the end of the day, he's still one of the top THREE b's in the whole league. Plus you combine that with one of the top 5-7 QB's in the league, you have a pretty potent offense.

What is the difference between the beginning of last season and this season? Did everyone expect Sidney Rice to blow up like that? No, so what makes you think this year someone like Harvin or Berrian or Shanicoe or Camarillo or whatever might not do the same.

As much as everyone hates Favre, he makes receivers play well (e.g., Rice and Shanicoe last year). Irregardless of Favre, they have AP! He's hard to stop if he's on.

They won the division two years ago with basically no WRs and no QB!

Quick, someone go nuts because I see the division objectively!

This really is the key: i.e. is Favre a top 5 QB anymore? If he plays like he did last year, the answer is a resounding yes, but last year was the exception (based on his history), not the rule. It was his best season ever and expecting a repeat at 40-41 years old, is a huge leap IMO.

Interesting part is the problems they have at O-line. Ifthey don't have that shored up by the first game Favre could be taken out on a stretcher.

New Orleans pummeled him as I have never seen. And untill then, the Minney line was decent in protecting fave. Now with o-line issues AND the NO defense coming after him again (as you know they will since it was so effective in the NFC Game) I see him possibly get put on the shelf for good.

Hope it doesn't happen, but it might.

Irregardless

Irregardless isn't a word.

I had to disagree with you about something.

The Vikings are still as much a favorite to get to the Super Bowl as the Packers.

Yes, the Vikings still have Adrian Peterson, but the Packers have proven they can beat the Vikings with Adrian Peterson. The Packers were either 2-1 or 3-1 (I can't be arsed to look up the numbers again) against the Vikings with Adrian Peterson before the advent of the Brett Favre experiment. The Packers have one of the best run defenses in the league. If the Vikings have to rely on Adrian Peterson to win, I am confident the Packers will prevail, unless Dom Capers turns into a pussy again and retreats back into the prevent defense all game long.

Maybe the difference between Woodson and Favre is that the CB position is so different than the QB position. CBs have to rely a lot more on speed than the QB, and speed is one of the first things to go with age. I've wondered the same thing about Woodson many times and even posted here about it, I wouldn't be surprised if any one of these years suddenly Woodson dropped off, I thought it was going to happen last year but I was dead wrong. Its happened to CBs just as good as Woodson.

So, I see a big difference between the age issue between Woodson and Favre

Even with age and everything, you don't think Favre is a top 5-7 QB in the league right now? Who do you rank ahead of him?

Wasn't putting up his best numbers at 40 a huge leap too last year?

I agree with the premise, but if you go back and watch the games I think you'll find that Favre was as effective (if not more) against the Packers' blitzing as he was against the three-man rushes. Jus' sayin'.

As far as AP -- Green Bay has had success against the Vikes when there isn't a legitimate quarterback. They may have largely stopped AP in the two games last year, but Favre torched them. If Green Bay comes out with a base defense and only seven in the box, AP could get bunches of yards -- which opens up the pass and play action (all stuff you know because you're not stupid).

Best way to beat the Vikes (I think) -- get a two-score lead, make them one dimensional, pressure Favre, and protect the football. Of course, those are ideal situations. Oh, and I think it goes without saying that Rodgers can't hit the turf 15 times in two games.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

I just mean when I see all these posts and news articles about the Vikings demise, people keep forgetting to mention the fact that regardless of the issues at WR, they have Adrian F'n Peterson. They won the division two years ago with a whole lot less (no Rice, no Favre, no Harvin, etc.).

Fine, may be the Packers destroy the Vikings with no Favre but AP. But there are a lot of teams that don't have as good of a run D as we do. AP is AP, I wouldn't count on stopping him.

Look at his career trends. He is far more likely to regress after a good year than to repeat his performance two seasons in a row. If I were a betting man, there's no way I'd be putting my money on Favre to repeat this year, especially since he's already whining about his ankle. If he does repeat, great -- it will be a pleasant surprise. But I sure am not risking any money on it.

For the life of me, though, I cannot figure out why he is advertising the problems with his ankle. If he's hoping that talking up his vulnerability will prompt NFL officials to go easy on him, that might work. But I doubt it will provoke defensive coordinators to take pity on him and dial back the pressure (and if it does, shame on them and they need to be fired). Other than a few concessions from officials, I don't see what he has to gain from this tactic.

beast (1h) : Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
beast (9h) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (14h) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (16h) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (23-Dec) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I literally just said it.
