Let me put it another way. If Green Bay said to Minnesota, OK we'll trade Favre to you but it's going to take and 1st and 2nd pick this year and a 1st next year. Minne says OK. You wouldn't do it?

The Vikings would never trade that much for a QB they'd be lucky to get two years out of. That would be incredible stupid of them if they did. Now, signing him as a free agent, sure, but there's no way they would give up that much for a player for 1-2 years, not even the Vikings.

For God's sake, let's not trade one of our players to the Vikings for a draft pick in a year when the Vikings are our main competition in the division--especially a player who had his career year the last time he played with their QB. Can you imagine how it would look if Lee made a game-wining catch against the Packers, maybe even in the playoffs? No way would Ted or any other GM put himself in that position. The fans would have him tarred and feathered, and rightfully so.

That thinking stopped Ted Thompson from trading Favre to the Queens and he ended up there anyhow. I'm not saying a normal trade, but if the Viking s had given the Packers a 1 and a 3 or more for Favre, we would have Matthews and 3 or 4 more highly drafted players. Maybe we'd have our other pass rushing OLB, a DB, and/or OL. For example, if Minn offered a 2 for Lee, you wouldn't take it?

I thought one of the Queens TEs was injured along with Rice. Or not?

If last year proved anything it was that Ted Thompson was absolutely right to try and keep Favre away from the Vikings.

I'm sure Formo could answer any questions about that trade. Actually, he's probably banging his head against the wall as he's reading this post as he's been in therapy for years trying to forget about that trade.

I get your point, but I was speaking my opinion about the Favre situation, not about anything that has happened in the past. Of course I don't know for a fact what anyone in the world will do, even myself, but that doesn't mean that I can't give an opinion on what I think they might do.

Point being, even Ted Thompson was offering to trade Favre to the Vikings for a couple of firsts and a 2nd, I just don't think it would have happened.

Dang, I should have said "speaking as an amateur historian."

Dodd - Vikings have historically done very stupid things. The Hershel Walker trade was probably the epitome as that trade almost single-handedly turned the late 80s Cows from the worst team to the dominant team of the 90s.

So we can expect Vikings to do something stupid again. That's what I'm getting at.

I do agree with Greg though. There are some things you just don't do and Ted Thompson did everything he could to make sure it didn't happen. But if the offer was up, you can expect the Vikings to do something stupid just as you can expect Al Davis to do something senile.
