Packers chat with Mike Vandermause: 

I give the nod right now to Underwood over Lee. As for Harrell, the best I can say for him is that he's still healthy 10 days into camp. Beyond that, I thought Jarius Wynn looked better in drills yesterday at practice. Maybe I'm completely off on this, but I don't sense an urgency in Harrell. For a guy who has basically done nothing for three years, I would think he'd be champing at the bit in every single drill. Maybe it's his personality. Maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture. But right now, I'd be surprised if he made the final roster.

Brian Carriveau (cheeseheadtv) , who has attended EVERY practice, had this to say in his Daily Links post this morning:

"Harrell has done a good job of making himself available nearly every practice. But McGinn is right. If hes healthy, now he has to make an impact."

Also, Aaron Nagler, also of Cheeseheadtv, who has attended several practices, tweeted this to me:

But I've heard a lot of media talking about how Wynn is doing great it one on ones and the media partly praising him and then MM said "Hes kind of just been OK," McCarthy said. I know this may be tough for some of you to swallow.

I am praying he will just get back in a slow and methodical precise and structured manner. Putting pressure on him to produce NOW might cause him to over exert in meaningless camp and pre seasons games.

This is his last shot. With as much as the Packers have invested in him, I think it is prudent to take the safest route to revive his career and obvious talents God given talents. Slow and steady... Until game one of the regular season.

I think the fact that MM has not called him out is showing a great deal about how this team is looking at this situation.

I know this may be tough for some of you to swallow.

I think the fact that Mike McCarthy has not called him out is showing a great deal about how this team is looking at this situation.

Let's read my statement again.

Ted and Mike... make a statement early in this camp and cut this cat... I know the depth on the defensive line is a question.. but speak to your team through actions and end this nonsense.

Ironic that Mike McCarthy calls out Wynn for his effort yet mentions not a word about this obvious eyesore of the camp if a beat reporter can see it..

From what I've read, it's Jarius Wynn who has struggled this camp. I've seen this in quite a few places. I've seen nothing but positive reports on Harrell outside of the lazy comments. It's easy to hate on him because of his first-round status and the fact he's done nothing, but I think the games is where it counts. From what I saw in the scrimmage, Harrell is a better football player than Wynn. You don't cut the better player, even if he's a little lazy IMO.

I don't think most GM's would give up on a high pick as easily as you would have liked Thompson to give up on Harrell. The RB competition for Jackson is a little more interesting. But Lumpkin's done nothing in his 2-3 years here except get hurt, Starks has been hurt for a whole year now, and Porter is an unknown from nowhere. And these are guys who are actually on the 80-man roster. Cut Jackson, who has been a reliable third-down back for us, and you will have to replace him with someone who is not quite as good as those other three. Sorry, but I'm not buying it.

Ahh... this has been, IMO, the best discussion of the young season.. thank you all for carrying it out and stating very valid but opposing opinions.. I am getting drawn back into football mode.. just what I needed.

Yes he has been living off bonus money and prorated salaries when he has been occupying the PUP or been on the 53 or been on IR.

If he gets hurt we will be on the hook for his salary again this season.. but if we cut him now.. we are out little.. his bonus money was long ago spent.

Anyway.. for me.. this is a thread I needed to get jacked up for the season again.. I was lagging along.. thanks again for the healthy non Favre debate.
