For all the bitching that goes on here, people on this site seem to consistently forget that this team is only two years removed from an NFC Championship appearance and a turnover away from making it to the second round last year.

Nice little read RP and I wouldn't expect anything different from you. You have always been a Ted Thompson backer, but I am still a basher as my avatar shows. I still don't think he can give us the guy to put us over the top.

One opportunity he misseed is not pulling the trigger on the Moss trade. Had we had Moss I see no way the Giants would have beaten us. It would have opened up our running and short passing game. I believe it cost us a Lombardi Trophy. Hopefully he learned from that.

The Raiders did not give the Packers an opportunity to match or sweeten the Patriots offer, therefore the Packers had no chance.

The Packers made an offer, the Raiders were considering it, then the Patriots came in with a better offer and the Raiders had to take it or leave it. They could have risked the Packers backing out, then the Patriots retracking their offer and being stuck with Moss then having to cut him.

The Raiders simply got a better offer and didn't want to mess around and took it right away.

And Moss would not have made a difference. Our WR were hardly the problem in '07.

"PackerTraxx" wrote:

Hardly the problem, yes.

But Moss still would've made the team better. As good as Jennings and Driver were, what about Moss, Jennings, and then Driver?

Not to mention the defense was making plays left and right.

Put Moss on the 2007 Packers, and I'm sure the Patriots would not have gone undefeated, and Tom Brady wouldn't throw 50 TD's. In fact, Favre probably wouldn't have finished 2nd in MVP voting and a 2nd Super Bowl ring.

I know anything can happen in the NFL, but I'm 100% positive that would be the result. Favre + Moss would generate more NFL hype than Brady + Moss.

"dhazer" wrote:

I'm surprised anyone still thinks Moss would have made any difference. Look at the games we lost. Explain how Moss would have been the difference. You can choose Regular Season or Post Season.

We need to face that Moss was ripped out from under us and he would not have made a difference.

Not landing Moss was a blessing. He would not have made a difference in a positive fashion. His being on the team could have persuaded Brett to not retire, which would have put another year on the bench for Aaron, maybe more and maybe we even lose Aaron.

My head aches just from the thoughts of the possible downfalls that would have transpired if we landed Moss. Maybe we don't even have Jordy Nelson then? Maybe we land some stud OLB and then don't trade up for Mathews?

Who knows, but it's obvious Moss wouldn't have made a difference in our '07 season. Even if we had made it to the Super Bowl, the Patriots would have rolled us. We had no pass rush.

Edit, dammit I didn't even address some of your specific comments. Yes, Favre/Moss > Brady/Moss ... Yes Favre gets 4th MVP... absolutely NOT a second Super Bowl ring though, no chance of it because the Giants would have STILL beat us. Does it really matter who you have at WR if your QB is chasing around for his life.

I guess people think that Moss would somehow have been able to magically pull down the duck that Favre threw in Driver's general direction. 😉

Do we know that Moss was willing to play in GB? I thought it was discovered that they were playing the Packers to get a deal out of NE. His goal all along was to play with the Patriots.

The Packers pissed Moss off with telling him that it was Driver's WR team or something like that and said he had to be on his best behavior, etc ... things of that nature. That upset Moss, per what he said.

I think Moss can be a tool at times, but I was looking forward to the Packers landing him. From a business standpoint, I can clearly understand why the Raiders pulled the trigger to the Patriots when they did instead of trying to use the Packers vs Patriots charade to bid against one another.

I watched that game again brother, and believe me that throw wasn't any prettier umpteenth time around.

Moss wouldn't have equalled a win on that night. To be honest, it was a nasty, tough, son of a bitch of a game played in extreme weather that was destined to be as tight as it was.

It was a bonehead throw. I do agree with the Play action deep playcall though.

btw what year is this in TT's 5 year plan? I still think we need an impact FA pickup to put us over the top. I see us getting to the 2nd round and then getting knocked out by the 49ers in SF
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

That's so easy to say, but who? What major Free Agent did the Packers have a chance at landing that would constitute as a "impact" free agent to put us over the top? Are we one player away from being over the top? Who? What position?

I'm not asking to 'stump' you, I'm asking because I am curious. I can not recall a single impact free agent where we had a financial hope of signing. Just because there's no salary cap, that doesn't mean we can spend any amount of money.

What position do we need? OLB? SS?

Which free agents were out there that we could have landed?

I would argue and there really is no counter argument, but Charles Woodson is the second greatest free agent signing in Packer history. While I would like to see the front office get more aggressive, there philosophy has worked and there is no denying it. The onus is now on the coaches and players IMO.

Merriman would have been nice, maybe even making a move on the cb in oakland ( not even going to attempt to spell his name) Brian Dawkins would have been nice last year to name a few guys that were and actually i believe still are.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
